*Elixir Strings*

would you guys say they are not good for picking at all? seems everyone is saying the coating wears too quick....?

Well Ive done 5 gigs with mine now. 99% picking. Probably racked up 14 hours playing time and while i can see a bit of a change in the strings over where I pick i don't hear any sign of the tone changing. Normally my strings would be dead by now.

Hmm... Well I don't really pick that much but the nano-web coating starts pealing off a while after slapping. It's not instant, it peels off like a few weeks after I played, but the string still work when they do (well mine still work and still have a great tone), but I don't really know about picking...

Picking does shred the coating over the pickup area. But, the coating is supposed to keep finger schmootz out of the string. As far as I know, picks aren't a big contributor of finger schmootz. As a matter of fact, the right hand's domain (left for you lefties) accounts for only about 1/4 of the string's length. If it gets all schmootzed up, it won't kill the tone as much as the other 3/4 would have.

I tried 'em, hated 'em. Too much stuff in the high registers; I found they overpowered the sound I really wanted- low, dark, but articulate with a growl and a punch. Sure you can EQ and all, but I couldn't really lose all the high-freq color in there. But if you like a lot of lively highs and a full-range 'twang' (is there such a thing?), them you might dig 'em.

EDIT: Oh! Sorry, I got mixed up with those "Alchemy" things. Alright- no, Elixers were weird- the coating doesn't feel right and it's like having them encapsulated. I'd rather have the string without that coating... that will start to peel off and I think change the character of the sound a bit.

I just thought it was weird and wrong. Definitely a personal issue.
