*Elixir Strings*

i dont care to much for the tone of elixers but they do last and feel good until the coating comes off then i have to change them since i hate the feeling of my strings shedding. but i heard of a trick if your on a budget and cant afford elixers. whne your strings go dead boil them it will give them some more life(not alot but its cheap and affordable for a extra week of strings).

I am finally trying a set of Elixers on a Sterling I just got from geddyfleaharris.

Once I got over the slightly greasy feel, I really like the sound of them. Question is how long will they last? I go through EB, DR and Rotos pretty quickly so if these last a few months, I will switch for sure.

i used them for a year, though i've only started playing more seriously these past 3 months

they started shedding though, so id say at 2-4 hours a day they last a goof 3 months at least

i dont care much for the tone though. coupled with the high tension and trebley tone (well, this may be a bad description, i have little to compare it with, but my bass feels awfully trebley) made for a sound that was thin when accenting the higher end and also accentuated any clicks and sliding. they do feel great though, and again, they last really long.

I got my first 4 string nanoweb set yesterday. So far for what I heard while practicing at home they are nice. I wasnt too much impressed or strucked with the feeling because I used flats in the past and it doesnt get smoother and that I guess :-)
Now I need to see how they do at band practice.

If I dont like them I will go for Superalloys which I tried previous to this ones and liked a lot.

My friend Mike has this set on his Ibby Musician, and his Filakovsky Jazz.

Mike ;)

ive got 45-100 on my Stingray and they are the best strings ive ever owned or played by far in every respect. Im getting some more for my project bass and id get some for my fretless but im sticking to Flats for that.

I use the nanoweb Elixirs. I like that they sound broken-in already and retain that tone pretty much until they stop working completely. I hate overly-bright "new-sounding" bass strings. I leave "bright" for the guitarists.

Same here.
I've now done two gigs with mine and i love them. I was almost giving up on my Duck Dunn with Lakland strings. Normally im happy with them but recently i was getting uneven volume levels and a lot of clank. Almost turned back to my 55-01 but after trying Elixirs im convinced i now have the best tone ive ever had. I love the lightly higher tension as well.
I do use a pick 99% though so i'll wait to see what effect this has on the strings but as far as tone goes these cant be beat.

If using a pick, over time, you will begin to get some fraying in the area you strike the string. I don't use a pick, but when mine start to fray, I know its time to switch to a new set. Using a pick might expedite the fraying.

I've been playing Elixirs for quite a few years now. Started out with the pre-nanoweb coating. I don't use anything else. I've tried nearly every string out there... and they never lasted me more than 3 weeks. Elixirs last me andwhere from 6 months to a 1 1/2 years depending on how much I play that bass. Sure, they're more money... but I save a ton in the end and always have the consistent feel and tone that I like. I haven't had any problems with the nanowebs fraying... but then again I don't play with a pick and tend to play with a light touch. They're not for everyone... but they're definitely for me.
