Ellington walk-up?

I had the sheet music for Sugar Moon put in front of me at a jam yesterday.

there was a notation next to the G6 and A7 chords saying "Ellington walk-up."

What's that?

Not familiar with the term. Was it bass specific? I'm guessing not. If I had to guess it would be a chromatic passing chord, probably a G# dim 7 or G#7. Perhaps an original recording would reveal how Duke played it.

Here are 2 possibilities that I can think of:
1) G-G-G#-G# implying a G#o7 passing chord or;
2) G-F#-G-G# this don't have to imply an extra chord and it is a nice way to add chromaticism in such case.

It would be easier to know the precise context in order to give some appropriate answer.

Assuming the context is that this is the end of the tune, ending with G6 - A7 - D, then it is probably the "Ellington ending tag", which is indeed a chromatic walk up.

Without knowing the context of where it lies within the chart I'd guess that you are probably being asked to play the rhythm like head of Don't Get Around Much Anymore.

I asked my jam pals what it meant and the G6 to A7 to D9 chords go like this:

G6 Am7 A# dim G/B

A7 Bm7 C dim. A/C#

D9
