Emergency Services

I could have used a Bass Urgent Care a few weeks ago. Haven't told this story here yet. We finished up a gig two Saturdays ago. Gig was great and we sounded good and all had fun. Started working on getting packed up after the show. I got most of my stuff ready and went to take the first two bags to the car. My trunk has those shocks or whatever so the trunk lifts and closes slow and smooth. One or both have been going out. I was parked on an incline and I do remember when I was getting stuff out before the show the trunk slammed down rather hard.

So, I get my bags and put them on the ground and just open and push the trunk open. Then I reach down and grab the bags and go to put them in. At the same time here comes the trunk lid. The latching piece of the trunk hits me square in the middle of my head just above my forehead. It hurt and about knocked me down. I grabbed my head and as soon as I did, I knew I was in trouble. Then came the blood. I go stumbling back in the back door of the club with blood going everywhere. People said I looked like something in a horror movie. The great folks at the bar got me a towel and I kept pressure on it. Remarkably, the bleeding slowed up a lot after about 10 minutes. I was pretty woozy. There was an off duty paramedic there and he said his buddies were on duty just a couple blocks away and they came and looked at me. They said, yeah, you're going to need to go get that stitched up. I thought to myself, no shi*! They said they could get an ambulance but if I could drive or someone could drive me, they thought it was fine.

The show was about an hour from where we live. I felt fine by this time other than my head hurt pretty bad. My drummer ended up following me and we went to a stand alone Emergency Room that is less than 10 minutes from where we live. All was well and they got me taken care of and I went home with 6 shiny new staples in my head. (I did not know there was a difference in staples and stitches. I thought they just called them staples sometimes because of the contraption they put the stitches in with. Nope, when I got them out, they sure enough were metal staples).

Epilogue to the story: This is an indictment on Whataburger. When we got to the ER my drummer said he would stick around if I needed or he could go and get something to eat at Whataburger, which was about 5 minutes away, and would call when he got done and see if he needs to come back or drive me home if they say I need a ride. I said that was fine. So, he leaves about the time they call me back. I got back to a room. They got me triaged and registered. Nurse came back to talk to me then the doctor. Doc then got the supplies and put the staples in my head. They then came back and finished up the paperwork and said I was good to leave. I had not heard back from my drummer. I called him and he was still in the drive thru line at Whataburger 🤣. Now, granted this was the fastest ER visit I have ever experienced, it still was over 45 minutes. I don't know how Whataburgers are in other parts of the world, but they are unbelievably slow at night around here. Unreal.
