This may be a seemingly stupid question however I lack knowledge on this topic. The EMG 35P4 is of course a humbucker, but is it a humbucker housing a Precision pickup (as suggested by the P in 35P4)?

EMG 35P4

It is a "soapbar" shape pickup which has an offset split-coil armature. One coil will cover the E and A strings, and the other coil will cover the D and G strings.
Both coils together are hum-cancelling. It is not a "humbucker" in the truest sense of the word, since that implies both coils span the entire length of the pickup (i.e. each coil covers all strings).
The split-coil armature makes it very similar to a Precision style pickup, but it's not exactly the same either. I think the real EMG Precision pickups have a slightly wider (fatter) armature.

I use the 40-size version of the same pickup (40P5), and I like it a lot.
I wasn't happy with the woofy-bright sound of the DC and CS humbuckers in the neck position, and wanted something that sounded more like a P-Bass. Swapping in a 40P5 put a stop to my GASing for other pickups.
However, it's still got that distinctive EMG clarity. While it sits in a mix pretty much the same as a P-bass, I doubt that sensitive vintage types would actually mistake it for a passive Precision if they heard it solo'd.
