Somewhere I saw a solution for the differance between single and humbucker. But i can not find this thread...If someone knows how to make them both sound same according to output level - please tell me!
doubtful but if there is a way with resistors, I would be interested as well. The humbucker mode is hot so the single will be less volume and thinner sounding. Rumor has it the TW-X has a louder output in single mode. I have not verified yet.
there were a solution somewhere here /someone gave a call to a EMG and they have sent him something but I do not remember what
Email Rick at EMG. He sent me one ages ago. If memory serves, it is fairly simple - just a resistor or trimpot across the switch terminals.
I tried to find the guide for this mod recently, but most people had linked to a .PDF file that doesn't exist any more. By description it sounded like a simple voltage divider on the dual coil output. (You are decreasing the output to match the single coil, so you will lose some volume) What you do is to add a resistor between the dual coil output and the volume pot, and another resistor from the dual coil output to ground. (This will work exactly like a volume pot). To figure out the values of the resistors the easiest thing to do is to turn down the volume on your bass in dual coil mode until it match the single coil on max volume. Then you measure the resistance between the outer pins and the center pin on the pot. Those two measurements will give you roughly the values you need on the resistors. Mind you, I have never tried this in real life, but in theory it should work.
Sell it, get a TWX. Enjoy life. I went from the TW to the TWX and there is no drop in volume when switching to single coil mode now.
In looking at the TW wiring diagrams, I think you just need a 25k trimpot. The green wire goes to the center lug, the left lug to ground, and the right lug to the switch terminal where the green wire used to go. Then you can adjust the volume on it until it's perfect, and seal your bass up.
Thank you !Thank you very much guys! Switching to TWX is not an option because i have bought this pickup yesturday)and I have a CS also and I am very interested to make this one work) Can I have Ricks email? and as I understand there is 3 ways - transistor\ wiring differnt way\trimpot, huh?
If you don't want to lose all that output (the single coil output is a LOT lower), you can also wire the EMG booster preamp into the single-coil side. Turn it on, adjust the trim for matched levels, and you're done. When I had one, I didn't drill an extra hole for the switch. Just taped it up, and stuffed it into the control cavity.
maybe this would work, then? Guitar Effects - AMZ Mini-Booster Should be fairly straight forward to build.
@ Roar - will you be posting the answer Rick gives you? I'm likely doing Steve_Rolfeca's solution - EMG PA-2 to bring up the level of the single coil mode to that of the dual coil mode. Done it MANY times before with separate pickups, and since there are separate outputs for the TW, it will work the same - set and forget. LOWERING the dual coil mode to the single level is the worst possible "solution" in my opinion. J
Yes Jamie - here it is! https://docs.google.com/a/iexpert.c...d=1188432548&I=cVF%2FkVZ4bLibnIOBwXBnrA%3D%3D And yes I have not specified but i want to make single coil sound louder as humb not other way. So can you say how Steves way goes?
By the way, the PDF provided lowers the output on the humbucker, it does not boost the single coil signal.
The only way to do it is going to be with some booster circuit. EMG offers one, or you can build your own (it's a simple circuit): The easiest thing to do would be to install the boost on a secondary switch and enable it after you have switched into single coil mode. I'm not entirely sure of the best means to attach it to your current switch and have the boost switched on with the single coil switching. It may require a more complex switch, like a 3PDT or 4PDT to integrate it. Another email to Rick might be in order if that's the route you want to take. Truthfully, I'd rather go with the easy option of quieting down the humbucker. I don't think any tonal differences will be noticeable.
2 FunkMetalBass I have got a lucier that can install me whatever I need, can you suggest what do I need to buy from EMG I just do not get it.drop me a link please and I will find a way to install it
