EMG Club!

However, live, I find the single pickup settings most useful and mix friendly. I usually just use the soloed N or M and the series combos every now and again. Again, this is most likely because they are single coils and already have an inherent bright yet semi-flat bandwidth vs the stronger sounding EMGs.

I think in a live mix the mid-frequencies become much more important, and therefore the single-pickup modes are more helpful.

All of my other three-pickup basses (and guitars) use three identical pickups, which makes the tonal comparisons more consistent and understandable. This little EB is the first one I've done using three different pickups, so it's a bit of a different animal for me. These three pickups all have such distinct tones; I'll never understand people who claim that "all EMGs sound alike"... :rollno:

Right, my bad. Couldn’t see that.
From what I heard the TWX resolved the gain problem which occurs to standard TW when changing to Single Mode. You could be right that your white labeled EMG is a JX. But it’s hard to find out without any technical analysis.
I saw however cases where a standard EMG shell was put on a HZ pickup. Errors happen.

Yeah the TWX volume sounds similar in single or humbucker mode

Hi Everyone
I am new and smitten by Emg, I brought a pair of jvx for my main bass ( fretless with hg Thorr epoxy neck in my signature),And quickly fell in love. Now within a month I have 3 of my 4 basses (all fretless Jazz variety) with different new to me emg sets. I feel like “where have I been “ for the last 35 years of bass playing !
Here they are

ja on the left, jx in the middle and Jvx on the right.all sound great but a bit different.

Welcome to EMG!

Welcome @pbass888 . If you like passive EMG's and don't want the Geezers, I suggest SELECT by EMG. They're designed by EMG, but were made in Korea in the 80's. I had them on my P/J in the 80's and never used any other brand. They are dead silent and growly, yet clean.

Anyone else like SELECT ?

My one fretted bass is a pj precision special with a us jazz neck. Perhaps a set of Emg pj down the road. @mb94952 have you tried the active EMg’s as well as the selects ?

Kinda hard to tell from a distance (here: Germany ). You could try to provide us with pics and a sound sample. No idea what your „odd noises“ sound like.
Did you do the swap by yourself or a tech? If it’s the latter maybe it’s best to let it check by the tech.
I installed it
I noticed it when in front in my amp

And In front a computer

I shielded it last night
But now no sound
Gonna check it when I get home

Hey Emg club
So I’ve had emgs and done two shows and 1 recording ep session with a singer. I’m surprised how much I like the JA set in my fretless jazz . As posted earlier (post 845) I installed 3 sets of jazz pickups in my fretless basses. The JA seem to be great live and I favor them slightly over the jvx and original jx versions. The JA pickups seem to be slightly warmer and fatter sounding. On the live gigs they all really stood out and were clear and defined, which is what I was looking for. Great lows and mids . Worried about a mid scoop on the j set but not the case ( perhaps a bit compressed compared to my old single coil Lollars.

I think (?) JA and jvx use alnico magnets vs ceramic , reading from the Emg site.

Anyway wanted to share my experiences and reiterate how happy I am with all 3 sets of pickups from the company.
