I have 2x EMG pickups with a BTC circuit...
Are the pickups active or are they passive with just active controls?
Thanks
Cool they must be active pickups then...
In your experience do passive pickups with a preamp sound better than active pickups with a preamp?
People rarely use preamps with active pickups, because it is redundant.
Not so sure I can agree with you there. In the case of EMGs, which have been hugely popular for 30 years, people do it all the time.
I'm pretty sure Warwick does the active/active setup with many of their MEC loaded basses too.

active pups with an active preamp are quite common. only a few do active pups with passive tone controls. also passive pups with active tone controls / pre are pretty common. It's got nothing to do with buffering, its all about tone shaping.
Your pickups are active and the BTC is a quasi parametric tone control not a preamp.
