Eminence Kappa Lite 3015 vs. Faital Pro 15PR400

I have a 212 and atttempted to load the cab with lots of different drivers.
No one of the attempted drivers could come close to the EVM 12L
The driver actually loaded is fantastic but it's not as fantastic like an EVM

I have had cabs with both the Eminence 3015 and Faital 15PR400 and likewise prefer the way the Faital sounds. I built this 15/5 Faital cab with mid driver and have been very pleased with it.
Faital 15/5 Build
I built in a -2dB L-pad with switch for the mid driver and another switch to bypass the crossover and run the 15 full range. This allows three different modes to run the cab. Even though the 15PR400 has good high end extension for a 15 (noticeably more than the 3015) it still sounds too dark for me so I never use it. You can definitely use a tweeter like the Greenboy Dually T does. I won't speculate on the details of that crossover/filter. What I found was that crossing over just under 1500 Hz to that Faital M5N8-80 allows the 15" to provide the meat of the mids and lets the 5" provide what is missing. That 5" tops out between 6-8 kHz which pretty well covers what a bass puts out. -2dB attenuation provides the right mid balance since your ear is pretty sensitive to that frequency range. That mid makes a difference in a good way. It's smooth, present, voiced well, sounds good with overdrive, and really improves dispersion.
The 15PR400 also sounds more musical than the 3015 to me when driven hard. It compresses a bit but keeps the bottom solid.

Yeah, I actually like the high end roll-off, since I play with overdrive and so don't want anything above 5khz.

I have a pair of Diesel 1x15s and swapped in some Faitals recently, with fantastic results.

They also work really well in the Sunn 2000S 2x15 cab.

Great thread thanks, just what I was after. I just picked up a really old barefaced compact. Whilst the weight is great I found the 3015 a bit harsh in the upper mids and just a bit shouty in general. The 15pr400 looks like it's worth trying out as it looks similar in performance just a bit smoother. Is it just a straight swap with these guys does anyone know or am I going to have to adjust the baffle in some way?

Pretty much a crapshoot, as cabs are usually built for a specific driver. Why not get in touch with Barefaced and ask them ?

here's an example of what i'm trying to describe. and BTW, IMO, the 3015's are no slouch at all.

i made a couple of clips a little while ago with my SVT7 Pro that just arrived today to give you and idea of the differences between these two fine speakers. (all the controls on the amp were set at noon, '71 jazz bass with rounds, recored on a Zoom H4n 8" off of the speaker:

i like 'em both almost the same but the Faital just a little bit more. but i gotta say that now that my 3015's are fully broken in (with lots of gigs on them), i LOVE them.

Let me add this to the mix...if it's a 2-way 215 w/Selenium D220Ti super tweeter crossed @ the recommended 2kHz, would this have any influence on your 3015/15PR400 choice?

I know this is old but I use a Selenium D250 Horn with Eminence highpass filter at 1.5Khz for more of a midrange tone. I do not like the sound of most tweeters.

Always great to see an ancient thread brought back to life. As you can see in my profile one of my G.A.S. goals is to have a cabinet built for my 15PR400, which I purchased new in 2012. It's been sitting in a box almost all of this time. For a brief while I had it installed in a single 15" cab, so I'm familiar with its sound. I've already chosen my cab builder. We're just waiting for certain necessary parts to become available. This is not a cry for help. Please do not recommend your favorite cab builder. I'm simply sharing some enthusiasm for the 15PR400.
