Double Bass Emphasized Beats

Some metronomes have this feature, so that one knows where the first beat of each bar is - is this something worth using or as a bassist it is important to develop your own sense of where the (first) beat is?

I only use the emphasis when sightreading dense or syncopated things where I'm going so slow anyway that I would tend to get lost. I try to switch it off as soon as possible. Honestly, it's such a pain to restart a particular measure if you mess up because you have to wait around for the one. Or you get a little extry practice picking up into the one from the middle of a phrase, which is its own kind of exercise. If you're a noob like me anyway.

If you count yourself in wouldn't it be obvious where 1 is? Set the click and count 1,2,3,4 or whatever time signature you're playing in and start your measure on the next 1. Or am I missing something here?

Man sometimes I use that feature on my metronome to help develop my "time". Like if your playing something at 120bpm put it on 60bpm and only use the emphasized beat so that a whole bar goes by before you hear the metronome. Another thing is put the emphasized beat on other beats like beat 2 or beat 4. It helped me to play things more steadily and not rush or drag... FWIW.
