Double Bass endpin length

I make notches with a 9/32" chain saw file - cuts quickly and cleanly and about the right size.

Good luck! ;)

Great idea! I didn't think of them. And they have a nice user-friendly holders. At first I thought you were putting me on. A chain saw? Then it sunk in that you meant the files for sharpening them. Ha, ha, ha. . .I guess I'm slow today. But then some of the city slickers lurkin' around here were probably confused, too :D
Thanks, Jake.

Holders?

Yes. You must have seen them. They hold the file with thumb screws and have a couple of angles marked on them to give you a guide for filing the cutters of the various chains.

I'll have to Google them. Back when I was using a chain saw in the forests of BC, we just held the file in our hands! ;)

They're a simple device. I got my first one when I bought my first 16" Homelite years ago.
I'd send you a pic (and also those of my basses!) if I could ever get this freaky computer to upload them to TB.

Okay, you goaded me into trying again :hmm:
I'm starting to get the hang of it. The resizing was one of the problems, it still is, sometimes it won't let me resize. And then I was waiting for the pic to come up on the post. I didn't know you had to hit preview to see it. Also, I guess there is a two pic limit per post. I managed to get up pics of my bar bass. I'll wait with my barn bass. You don't want to rush these things :D

:D Congratulations - I knew you could do it!

Jake,
I checked my chain saw files and even went to a box store (HD) but the largest I can find is a 7/32.
Do they make a 9/32" or is there a metric equivalent?
Do you think that the 7/32" will work?
Thanks,
Gerry

I must have made an error. 7/32" is a little under 1/4" and that's the picture I have in my mind.

Sorry, Gerry! :(

After reading this thread, I measured, and had about 5 inches excess endpin length. I'm not sure it helped the sound, but I did get rid of about 1/3 pound dead weight by hacksawing it off and dressing the end with my dremel.

Ow. Ow. Ow. My eyes are watering.

...but I did get rid of about 1/3 pound dead weight... That in and of itself was worth it.

That's what she said! Hah! :D
