Why go to all that trouble? Just drive a few drywall screws through the top. Remember- measure twice/ fasten once. Just remember to keep your impact on low so you don't drive all the way through the top. Or for a more permanent repair, some 3/16" toggle bolts with fender washers on the top. That sumbitch ain't going nowhere.....Hmmm, looks secure.
I wonder how many pieces the end block consists of...
