That's tangential to what I said. Besides, he was just the first to do it. It's not like he developed relativity. Someone else would have come along and done it soon enough, and first to market usually determines the reference for much of what comes later, not necessarily the best, just the most common and most copied, because it's the most common.

Why can't people just like their Fenders without out all the folklore, myths and overcompensating?
Just enjoy your bass and play it, like everyone else who plays other basses.
Do you like your Fender? Is it your favorite bass? Wonderful. Can you do it without needing to believe Leo was a cross between Jesus, Einstein and Hasselhoff?
If it wasn't for Rickenbacker, Leo may have never existed. Or at least ended up on the path he did.
Begin nervous breakdowns.......

my most excellent P bass was made by Ibanez 25yrs ago, but screams Leo. I kept it.
