If you felt the Wonderlove wasn't flexible, you won't like the Aguilar. The Wonderlove is infinitely more tweakable.
I don't mind something simple, with simple controls - but I thought the wonderlove with all those controls could have been a lot more flexible than it actually is - e.g. it could have more of a range on the attack and decay controls; the external pedal could allow you to sweep the frequency further than it does; the sensisitvity and tone knobs and range switch provide less control than just a frequency and sensitivity knob would, etc.
maybe the idea was to make it idiot proof, but I'm an idiot and could still have managed a bit more flexibility.... as it is I could actually get more different sounds out of my EBS Bass IQ, which is monkey simple, than the wonderlove.
The wonderlove does sound lovely, and it is very tweakable within certain limits, and of course it looks very cool...
Interesting thoughts on the Wonderlove...long ago I had the EBS BASSIQ and felt it was too uni-dimensional

I kinda agree... You should be allowed to set it crappilly if ya want..
on a further note I've been using the source audio envelope for a few weeks now.. I feel like it does too good of a job with the envelope algorithm.. there's just a kind of intuitive analogous sound to the limitations of each envelope filter that makes the sound super sweet
The idea initially was to make an EF that mimicked the Lovetone meatball but without all the bad sounds you could make and Spencer succeeded. The Groove Regulator was what got me to sell my Meatball.
Having owned both, i can't imagine the Bass IQ being able to do anything that the Wonderlove couldn't. The same cannot be said for the Bass IQ.
My one complain with the wonderlove is the expression pedal use. It's finicky and it's just not that great. I do like experimenting with the FX loop. There's a lot of cool sounds available when you run pedals through the FX loop.
If you are looking for a very powerful filter that works wonderfully with an expression pedal, the Xerograph deluxe is your huckleberry

With that said I started with a EHX -Tron and there are some really funky wet sounds in there but having separate wall wart just for it sucked.
Next came the EHX Q-balls: this filter really has some nice range but it still felt limited.
The 3-Leaf Groove Regulator was on my board for over 2 years and it was AMAZING! Loved the effect loop but after a long time I was looking for even more control.
My ultimate filter on my board is the WMD Super Fatman. AMAZING amount of control to create just about any filter sound. LFO auto-Wah, blend, huge range, LP/BP/HP, CV control, and it has a 3-light LED to let you know when the filter opens/closes and the rate of the LFO.
Happy times!

Not suggesting this pedal, just letting you know that there will be a new envelope filter for bass players to choose from.
So much difference in character from one filter to the next. Right now I am enjoying the honeymoon with my Proton. Pretty easy to dial in and very funky- it is the mutron sound. But the EHX Qtron+ is very funky too, although the volume boost can be tough to deal with. The boss AW-3 has some funky sounds, and the source audio BEF has even more great sounds, including the killer phaser sounds, but I feel both can lose too much volume and/or low end with a lot of settings. I'd go with the SA BEF Pro if I was buying one today, because of the low retain, internal EQ, and storable presets.
I am trying a buddy's WMD Superfatman out, and it is cool, very flexible but not as easy to dial in and not quite as old school funky as the Proton, or even the Haz MuTron III+. It is capable of some extreme sweeps, but I am having trouble controlling the velocity of really extreme sweeps. I will probably not buy it from him, but I can understand people loving it. I have tried the MXR a number of times in different store settings and never could get comfy with it at all.
As for really cool filters I have not tried but would love to try, the top of the list is the Xerography Dlx, the Wonderlove, and the Prometheus Dlx from Subdecay. Probably try them in that order some day.
So I don't know how familiar you are with EFs, but for a first filter, or for a very flexible but space efficient and not too complex filter that is funky first and foremost, I'd go with the Proton. If I wasn't afraid of more tweakage and maybe wanted a slightly less classically funky more modern sound with more synthyness, the Xerography Dlx. If I wanted a number of classic filter tones at my feet and moderately deep tweakability, and in particular also wanted to get wobbly, it would be the SA BEF Pro. If I was looking for full freak tweakness and a deeper rabbit hole, then the Wonderlove, Prometheus or the Superfatman. Still lots of others out there- the Aggie Filtertwin, Bassballs, Robottalk, all those EHX filters, all have their own sounds. A lot depends on your bass, strings, setup, and technique, too. So there definitely is no one-size-fits-all.

...because settings that sound crap with a straight bass sound might sound awesome with, say, a fuzzed sound.
The main thing is that you can set the Bass IQ to open the filter much slower than the wonderlove, leading to some cool synth-pad type sounds.
I've had a bunch of filters: Boss AW-3, Boss FT-2, EHX Bassballs, DOD FX25, FX25b, MXR BEF, Ibanez AW7, EHX Micro Q-Tron, MXR Bass Auto Q + 1 wah pedal (105Q). I still own a Digitech BSW.
I liked them all except for the Boss AW-3. The MXR BEF did it best for me, but I ended up selling it anyway because it quite wasn't quite what I wanted.
The sound I'm looking for is what I get with the Q-Tron on band pass, with q at 3 o'clock and drive at noonish, but like with bottom end. I can also get it with the BSW on mode 1 or 2 and with knobs around (left to right) 9, 10, 10 (o'clock).
I have a GR coming in and from what I heard in clips, I think I can get my sound with it. If so, filter GAS done with.

I also have the EBS IQ for over 10 years, or when the first black color pedals came out. I still use it but I can't agree that you can get more out of it than the wonderlove. I use the EBSIQ with there octave pedal. By itself I don't really use it. I have the newer 3 leaf proton for most envelope sounds.
The sound of the wonderlove as well as the proton is more towards the Mutron III. You may or may not like that sound.A bassist making bass products, how bad can it be.
To say I could get 'more different sounds' is just my subjective impression of what qualitatively different sounds I could get that were useful to me - of course both pedals are capable of an infinite range of sounds along the various axes afforded by the controls.
The ability to slow the attack does give the Bass IQ a range of sounds that the wonderlove can't do.
Of course the wonderlove can do stuff that the bass IQ can't do too, but the limited range of the attack and decay controls and the use of three controls (sensisitvity/tone/range) where two would do (cutoff and sensitivity) do make it less flexible than it looks, 'sall I'm saying.
Thats smart, I guess you do need time to work with it before you endorse it in any manner. Looks like its made well and not plastic looking. Would had loved to hear more or a demostration but again its new and you probably don't know to much about it yet. Please keep us posted of its developments.

The Envelope filter in the clip,so far is like no other envelope on the market but I think once it hit's the market there will be companies doing their own versions.
Wow so you think its more on the lines of innovative. Interesting, therefore we look very forward to its development phases. Do you personally know about when it will be released, in other words what's the companies target release date. Anything you know about the price. Looks well built so i take it it may not be on the cheap side of your pockets.
