Did you get them from anywhere in particular? Allparts has them for 15 bucks a piece. Is that about right?

No, I didn't pay that much. I can't remember exactly where I got 'em, just searched for 'em on the innertubes...

Yeah, I think they look a lot better than the Gibby knobs. The gold tops of the tea cups match the rest of the hardware, and the controls LOOK like a Hofner.

I'm not a teacupper. I refitted my Rumblekat with Gibson amber tophats. I like their look against the tort controlplate.

I just found out about this bass this morning, And i am thinking about getting one soon i love the idea of having that hollow body sound! it looks killer to.

Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll like it. I had a Rumblekat and let it go (among many other things) to finance a short scale Alembic. The Woody is the only thing I miss. Great sound and feel. Definitely not a one trick pony if you can vary your right hand technique. A couple of things:

...the hardware is heavy duty. I'm not a real big fan of gold plating, but it seems to be holding up well after a couple of months of gigging.

The pickups and hardware were solid enough, but my Rumblekat (which I picked up used) was losing its gold finish fast. Eventually, I used a little Flitz metal polish to remove the gold from the pickups (decent chrome underneath) and swapped in a chrome Gibson bridge. Had I kept it, I would have replaced the Gibby bridge with a Hipshot Supertone and swapped in chrome tuners (IMHO the bass would look better in chrome anyway). That's just cosmetics, though. The Rumblekat is one of those well-kept secrets...

I spray painted my bridge black (pretty good job) and it looks great. I also put Ibanez knobs - the ones with a black rubber ring - and I really like the look now.

I'll never let this bass go.

Black would be a great look for this bass too. The mahogany grain and binding is so good on all that I've seen, it's hard to believe the low cost.

Now you guys have got me looking at Rumblekats again -- I've got a short scale, Alembic Brown bass with a laminated mahogany neck and all the bells and whistles, that sounds like the voice of heaven - and still I'm looking at Rumblekats! Somebody stop me. I don't use all my basses as it is, the last thing I need is another mahogany short-scale...

I definitely dig mine. I've had mine for about a year now and it feels and sounds great.

Good to read the gold plating comes off the pickups easy. I've been considering swapping parts out for chrome too. Glad to know I won't have to buy new pickups to do it!

I've never tried one, but I'd be curious to play one to see what it sounded like. I've talked to two people who have played one. One was a big guy who said the Epi was heavy. The other was a petite young woman who said the Epi was light. Both are excellent bassists, by the way. So, I don't know what to think. The guy kind of liked the way it sounded, but the girl didn't.

THAT'S why I don't take stock in bass gear reviews. Now, I love readin' reviews as much as anyone else (Think I'm lyin'? Check the magazine rack beside the crapper). But, in NO WAY does it sway me, one way, or, the other.


But, I've ALWAYS wanted one for the simple fact that Allen Woody is one of my top all-time favorite players.

I'd loved to see a pic of the chromed out one. I've been thinking of doing that with mine. I've never been a fan of gold hardware, but on the Woody it doesn't look bad.

I'm with you on the reviews. I read as many as I can find, and I look for as many different YouTubes and Sounds samples I can find. I was hard to find a video of them playing this bass and Not using a pick... after all Allen Woody was a pick player!

I've done some decal work obviously. Didn't really care about not matching the gold hardware with the new tuners.

Don't mind me asking, where did you find the decals? Are they removable?

I got them from this guy.

They come off with no problem and surprisingly never get in the way when you play.

Up close you can tell their decals, but a few steps away they look very convincing.

Mine have been on over a year and still look great.

Just got one of these from a fellow TBer yesterday. Loving it so far. It has the Hipshot Supertone bridge, which I really dig. I've never been a fan of the traditional Gibson 3-point bridge, and I think Hipshot hit it out of the park with their design.

Has anyone swapped the tuners on one of these? I was thinking about a set of Hipshot Ultralites to combat the tiny (almost negligible, but I can still feel it in my left hand) amount of neck dive.

If so, what did you use? Clover? Y? What size?

Has anyone here swapped pickups? If so, what did you use?

I've thought about gutting my Rumblekat and tossing some TV Jones pickups in with a Vol/Tone/3-way switch setup, but I'd rather not do any routing. The stock pickups are nice enough, so if there aren't drop-in replacements, then they're staying. (I will likely swap out the vol/vol/tone for the vol/tone/switch setup, though. I seldom blend pickups at any level other than "on" or "off," and I like to be able to kill the output with one roll of a volume pot as I do with my Precision Bass.)
