Easily remedied. I've fixed several Rumblekats and Jack Casady Sigs by simply gluing in the bridge mount bushings.

Epi Allen Woody Rumblekat

Easily remedied. I've fixed several Rumblekats and Jack Casady Sigs by simply gluing in the bridge mount bushings.
I was at my local music store today buying strings. Took a stroll to where the basses are and saw the Allen Woody bass. Never seen one before...didn't know they excisted. Like the way it looked so I thought I'd try it out.
Too cool!! I fell for that bass right away. Light but not wimpy and great action. Needed a bit of a fret leveling (lots of basses do) but overall a blast to play. I play Fender Jazz bass and love them, but I've been kind of half-thinking about finding a nice little, inexpensive hollowbody bass for fun. Tried the Hofner Icons, the Epi Viola.....not for me. But this bass felt just right.
I was actually thinking about going back up there on Sunday but now I have a concern. Reading this thread gave me a moment of pause when mention of "the bridge dislodging." What's up with that? Do the studs which hold the bridge in place pull out of the body? I'd like a bit of clarification about this.

Not a big deal. Just keep an eye on it. If the posts pull out of the body you just carefully pull them out the rest of the way and use a little Gorilla glue when you put them back in.
All Epi and Gibson basses with the 3 point bridge are somewhat prone to this but its a very easy fix.
I use higher tension flats on mine and have not had the problem. I did have to buy new saddles ($28 from Allparts) to get the action as low as I like it. The Allparts saddles are about 1/8 inch shorter than stock.
These was a post a little back on this thread about muscle memory and switching back and forth between 35" and 30" scale bass's.
I really like the looks and feel of this Woody (was messing with on at my local guitar shop yesterday, very cool feel to it)but being a rank novice it is all I can do to "find" my way around the frets on a 35" bass, will switching to a 30" force me to relearn the fret locations or is the fret spacing not really that big a difference?

Allen Woody is one of my favorite bassists. The EPI Rumblekat is a fantastic bass for the price. Woody was had a "hollow body" sound that can be heard on the first two Gov't Mule albums. He played an EB-2 on a lot of tracks. He was also fond of the EB-3, Thunderbird, and Ric.
The Rumblekat sounds really sweet with a bit of dirt dialed up. Push your amp or VT Bass pedal a little hard and the Kat sings.

YMMV, but I'd be surprised if it took you more than 15 minutes to acclimate to the shorter scale if that long.

Before doing that you can try out a shorter scale using your current bass and a capo by detuning a whole step and putting the capo on at the second fret.
I don't think that simulates a short scale at all. Most of the short scales have a smaller neck radius and narrower string spacing.
IME, Not really all that much different in neck dimensions/string spacing unless the shortscale in question is a Hofner-esque, Vox-esque or a Hagstrom Swede. My Rumblekat is closer to a "normal" sized neck than those.
It will certainly give him an idea of the difference in scale length which is his question and it's very easy to do.
Great tone but I'm on the brink of selling mine as well as a Michael Kelly AEB because of the Les Paul - like hard edges.
I guess I just can't tolerate anything without the Fender type contour body.
I might have to give the classifieds a go depending on what I can do on a trade (less hassle).

I got one used last summer. I think it is a very cool little bass. Mine is strung with Chromes and I use it for some old northern soul stuff. It is perfect for that music with a lot of fast licks.
Also I find the G-string to benefit a lot from the shorter scale, giving it more punch.
I occasionally get some rattle from the pickups, possibly from the screws for adjustment.
I have one question: Did anyone try to get the mid pickup a little lower?
I guess there is no routing under it but at least on mine the black plastic part seems to be a little to high.

I have an Epi EB-3 which has the same pickup as this bass (mine is in the extreme bridge position though) and I'm not a huge fan of it, plus the 3 point bridge is not fun to intonate. Besides those things, if it is anything like the EB-3 it'll be great. It looks stellar and I imagine the chambered body will be warm and resonant for days so I say go for it.
Finally got some shots of my Epi AWSR with the new Supertone bridge....AWESOME BRIDGE!! 'Love it!. I put tea cup knobs on her, and TI Jazz Flats. The bass plays GREAT! One thing I noticed, after I got mine from Hello Music, it does not have the "Allen Woody" sig on the head. Oh well....I am not crazy about the quality of the gold pup covers. Anyone know where I could find some nice gold covers for these pups?
