Epifani Club! I've seen the "light"! - Part II

Get a couple of UL112 cabs, or maybe a UL112/Ul110 combo and see what you think. I've been pretty impressed by those in the past, and if you've typically gotten by with a single 210 before, a 112/110 combo will give you a bit more low end I think.

the difference between ceramic and neo speakers has been discussed quite a bit on here, along with the different woods used in each cabinet, the radiused grill on ps cabs, the weight is a significant aprt of the difference, hence the sudden popularity of lightweight cabs(berg, epifani, avatar, amrkbass...etc etc...). the UL cabs also handle quite a bit mroe power than the ps cabs do and have different horns installed.

so there mgiht not be too much different between the ul's and the ps cabs aside from materials used and the weight, btu that is the whole point of there being a distinguishment between seperate lines of cabs within one company anyway.

Ok, thanks. But I don't see where neo cabs handle more power than ceramic cabs. The drivers are both rated at 400 watts. Just for the sake of comparison, I checked out the DR Bass cabs, and all their neo cabs are rated lower than their ceramic cabs. Any way, looks like I might try the " old school " Epifani.

Size & portability, mostly - the 902 is in a 4u rack bag and for most of my gigs it's overkill - physically and sonically. When I bought it I was doing a lot of work in really big rooms, but many of those gigs have dried up, unfortunately. I've actually been thinking of selling the beast, but just haven't made time to look at the market.

I had a pair of epifani NYC series cabs and loved them. I have also heard generally good things about the ps stuff. right now im loving my UL cab though and will be adding a second one soon enough.

Well, in spite of "endorsing artist" thingy up there, I just ordered an Epifani UL610 because I've been GASsing for some Epifani gear foreva'! I got the 610 because A.) I really only wanna carry 1 cab-(I was using an Acme 410 & 210) & B.) It handles more power than 2 410s, weighs less than 2 410s, AND it cost less than a 410 & a 210. I'll post up when I get it!

For me, the price of the PS line isn't what sold me. I just really liked the more classic low mid heavy tone over the more UL line (which to me sounds more neo with more high mids, very tight and focused).

So, would you say that the PS cabs have more sustain? By that I mean, I have played out of cabs that were described as " tight and focused ", and sounded to me almost dead in a way, or at the very least, dry sounding. The notes , although loud and punchy sounding, seem to die right away. I'm not really looking for alot of " boom ', but notes that ring out somewhat as opposed to quick attack and then die. Am I making any sense? :eyebrow:

Here is my current club/jobbing rig. For louder club gigs I like the difference between the UL and PS 112,because their voiced differently it give me a nice full sound and great volume that speaks quickly. For jobbing I will just use one usually the UL because it cuts thru a band better by itself IMO than the PS but the PS Sounds better with my EUB by itself. I will probably add a UL 410 at some point, although I have a Edens 410 and a old SWR with a blown driver, GAS never ends i guess

Great looking 112 stack. I had the same setup for a while and also liked the pairing of the UL/PS cabs for a full tone.

I still have the PS112 cab and now have a UL2-410. I definitely wanna get another PS112 cab. I really dig the Epifani cabs.

To be honest, when I first heard about this, I was rather skeptical, what with the whole AccuSwitch and whatnot. However, when Mario told that they did indeed use dual-voice coil drivers (which should in theory work, though perhaps not with quite as much efficiency as a dedicated 4 or 8-ohm voice coil), we became much more intrigued. Then, after hearing them (and hefting them!), it became apparent to the BGM crew that these cabs could be a significant - "outstanding", even :D - design.

Of course, when dealing with newly introduced products, we must decide these awards based upon how we think a product will pan out, as opposed to how it will hold up under intense scrutiny and heavy gigging. But, on their surface, the Epifani D.I.S.T. cabs seem like an exciting product, and we can't wait to check them out further! :bassist: :D :cool:
