Epifani UL410 vs UL112 stack

Big name acts have been doing that for years. I guess it's not so weird. Well, it is--but it's not unheard of.

The funny thing is, the Epifani line offers a nice lightweight and compact package that eliminates the need for club bands to have multiple fridges behind them.

Soooo.....if they are paying for it, why aren't you getting the dual UL410 stack and UL902c??? :D

Or maybe just a single UL610 instead of lugging around two cabs. :D

In that case, just get the 410UL.. that's a no brainer. If you are considering carrying another box to make the 310UL look bigger, you might as well go for the full deal. The 410UL will do about anything you ask of it, even on the loudest gigs (assuming you get the 4ohm version and have at least 500 watts pumping into it), and will have a 'large rig' look on stage while still only weighing around 56 pounds.

That now seems like a no brainer decision to me. The 410UL puts out SO much more sound than the 310UL. It is larger, but compared to what you are using now, it will put out just as much ooomph, be 1/2 the size and 1/4 the weight.

And, the new Series II 410UL does not have that unique voicing that some loved and some didn't in the original model.. it's a very even cab now... it sounds like a really big, really loud 310UL!

and i was thinking the 310 or 112 stack because i still do smaller gigs, i play fulltime. So im not trying to be carrying a big 610 stack to a small club or church gig lol. IM trying to find something that will do the large stuff, but also do the small stuff. I dont like having gear just laying around so im no tgonna have two rigs. I need one do all.

Well, again, we seem to keep going back and forth. The 310UL sounds great on large and small, but will compress and run out of room when really cranked. The 410UL sounds great on large and small gigs and will handle virtually anything (assuming you like a nice modern tone), but it's form factor is large enough that it could be problematic on very small stages (jazz trio work, for example). The 112UL x 2 or 112UL/110UL stack is WONDERFUL for modular use from very small to medium gigs. It ain't gonna do the real big ones... even less so than the 310UL.

Many of my freelancing peers use an Epifani410UL for the vast majority of their gigs, and keep a 112UL or 210UL around for the small stuff. They typically get a 4ohm 410UL and an 8ohm 112UL (the only version there is with that cab) or an 8ohm 2120UL. This results in their monoblock SS heads like the LMII and Ep502, or Thunderunk to automatically adjust power to the size of the cab.

UL410 for the big shows and a UL112 for the small stuff. Or just the UL310 b/c it's light enough and a tad smaller. I've been finding myself carrying it to the smaller gigs too. :)

Yeah, that 310UL is PERFECT for guys who do small to medium stuff. It's small enough to use with no problem on small stages, and like all the UL's it sounds great soft. However, it still has more oomph than a 210, and can cover all but the most screaming large gigs. However, if you do those loud ones (especially if you play slap style at all), the 310UL can die an ugly death. It never sounds bad..ever... it just disappears... just compresses to the point of no increase in volume after a while.

It's all about determining what the maximum volume you need. I again alway describe the 310UL as the 'best 210 cab ever made'.. about the same size and weight as many 210's, and it will put out more ooomph... but it ain't a 410:hmm:

I only know of one 502 in Detroit... TBer Shelly. I've never heard the 502 with the Epi cabs, but I'm sure it sounds great. Many of us feel the Markbass LMII is close to the 502 sound, just as loud, and at $1,000 less, it kind of eliminated a lot of GAS for the 502 with at least some of us. However, Shelly's 502 sounded great, and if you can find one used, they are pretty cool. I would not pay $1,600 for one though (IMO).

I forgot we discussed the LMII. While the 502 does have a subtley different tone than the LMII (a slightly bigger low end to my ear), and I can see some slightly preferring one or the other, the general voicing and volume is very similar with both of them from our somewhat recent A/B testing at Steve's house. So, not sure the 502 would 'fix your issue' with the LMII. Who knows though, the 502 sounds great to me, as does the LMII, especially with the EpiUL's!
