Epiphone Club

Well if noone here has a problem with it , I will try to bring the numbers list up to date within the next couple of days. Sort of sad to see the thread just laying here with people wanting to join and noone taking care of it anymore. I think there might be enough interest again. We shall see.

So lets see, anyone else out there that loves them some Epi basses. I'll just bet there are a lot of Epi guys out there. Right now I have an Epi Thunderbird IV. Beautiful sunburst and I have brushed stainless steel pickguard and trussrod covers on.I decieded that I liked the 3 point bridge so had my tech superglue it in the body as it was trying to escape. Love the voice i get with this one. I am looking at getting an EB3 soon. Don't know what the difference is now but the new EB3 has much better tone IMHO than the ones I,ve played in the past. Local music store has a very nice cherry EB3 with crown inlays rosewood fretboard. May just have to do a trade. Anyhow let's see if we can get some people talking about all the different kind of Epi basses they have out there.

Here's my Epi LP Bass Special ,Plays Great , but quick question ,has anyone found upgrades in Pickups and Tone Pots or possibly active electronics?

Anyone else got one of these besides Gary? I was going to strip it for parts and build a real Entwistle FenderBird but I've decided to repair the neck break and restore it.
Mine's a 1964. My first bass, in fact. Cost me $450. Sorry about the crap photo quality - you can't see the totally cool batwing cut on the headstock - but it's the best I've got handy. The damned thing is neck-heavy enough where it stopped being my main axe long ago, but still sounds fabulous.

Very cool! Yeah, worst neck dive of the entire Thunderbird family. I picked mine up for $350 two years ago. I'm familiar with the batwing scallop, had the 60's Epi EBO variant in the early 70s.

The reason I ended up buying the thing - and started playing bass - was that my first electric guitar was an Epiphone Wiltshire 12-string with the same cherry-stained-mahogany finish. I'd been through Leo's Music on Oakland a bunch of times and saw the Embassy in the used bass section, thought, "hey, that's the brother of my 12-string", but never bothered touching it, figuring it probably wasn't a very good bass. Then, finally, one day, I plugged it in and said "holy crap, this thing's got TONE". Fortunately, nobody else figured out its secret powers before I scraped together enough money to make an offer on it.:bassist:

Howdy! I was looking for an Epi club! Glad this one seems to be getting resurrected.

Number please...

I have an Epi Power Bass, circa 1989. Read through the entire thread and haven't seen a member with one yet, but I know I've read threads about them here.

Its a great bass. Entry level to be sure, but its the first bass I've had that I've felt like hanging on to. I've had two Ibanez's, an SR200, and an Artcore 140 - which is a beautiful semi-hollow. Just wasn't for me.

Then a Cort, but the fretboard was split.

Then I traded a $50 wah pedal for my Power Bass. It felt really good in my hands and I upgraded immediately to Basslines Quarter Pounds. Its a string through body with sealed tuners. One of the tuners had the back popped off, but there was one on ebay just then - how cosmic! Tone, feel, everything is awesome.

I'm just an entry level hobbyist, so for now, this bass is my keeper.

OK GUYS,
I' gonna try to get the numbers thing together within the next couple of weeks. The roster hasn't been updated in a few years so it will take some time.Bear with the wolfman and we shall get it rolling soon. Thanks for the interest and posts.

The last four posters have some great examples of Epiphone basses. This is why we need an Epi Club, so.many varieties thru out the years and even though they aren't multi thousand dollar basses they are very nice playing, sounding, looking basses. I always have at least 1 Epi bass hanging around. IMHO Epi necks have always felt better to me than Gibby's or Fenders and I've always had a bunch of fun playing them.

I've had this Korean-era Epi EB-1 for a couple of months now. I had to replace the original bridge with a Hipshot replacement - a nice upgrade. I have this fretless strung with tape wound strings and made some string mutes. This setup fits perfectly with a bluegrass outfit I play in and makes a great alternative to using my upright. Plus it is very comfy to play and looks cool (well, except for the painted f hole)

No need for a number, just wanted to post more Epi porn!
