Epiphone flying V and Explorer bass active pup replacement

I know this question has been asked a million times already but it seems like I have never seen a direct answer to this question.

I recently bought an Epiphone flying V bass a week ago and brought it to practice last friday. I loved the way it handled. I also have an explorer bass from Epiphone and basically they were almost identical the explorer is bigger but the shorter V never really did bother me.

One thing I would love to replace is the stock pickup. I like the way it sounds right now but I'd really love to replace it to give it more growl on the low end and more zing on the high end. I own a Dean Razorback bass with active electronics and a BC Rich beast bass with Emg P pups...those two basses basically sound like wild animals when played through my amp.

Question is, which active EMG pickup would be the best fit for the stock pickups of the Flying V and the Explorer? I've read somewhere that the Emg 35dc is my best bet although it would leave me with nasty gaps on the side. I've also read that I can also use a 45 series emg which is for 5 string basses, but do I need to widen up that pickup cavity for that though?

What other alternative pups can I also use?

If anybody has pictures of the flying v or explorer modified with emgs, can these be posted?

Thanks a lot.
