Epiphone Jack Casady Really is All That

I purchased it 3 months ago so I think it is in warranty. The problem is that it's just a week ago that I found out the transformer and the neck joint in bad shape while I was replacing the strings for first time. And I know from experience that these guys at the shops almost always try to make you sound unreasonable if I ask for a replacement 3 months later...
I will contact the shop tomorrow and see what they think. Maybe they do something about it. If not, then I will send Epiphone an email.
I bought mine "blemished" but the only blemish I found was the transformer spun around and the jack worked part time.

Yes, I don't know about the older made in Korea ones, but I think they have reduced the quality control checklist items especially considering its price. In Europe, the gold Casady costs $900!
Yes I believe sometime over the last few years they moved production from South Korea to China. Either way this one definitely had a "Made In China" sticker on the back.
Love my Jacks. Have the gold top since 2003. Korean made, eventually had to deal with some
electronics cleanup. Tech fixed it no problem. Must be a trick getting to the guts. Always used Blue steels as Jack. Got the 20th Anniv love it as much.put GHS precision flats on it sounds great. Perfect vibe for my Jefferson Airplane tribute Reverend Jefferson, as I think pyramid flats were the string of the day back then. Love my black pickguard on it.

Mine is made in Korea. Not sure what was up with the lax QC, but I'm guessing that whole stick it in the f-hole thing has a lot to do with it.

My Jackbass was made in Korea in 1999, and I took delivery of it in, January 2001.
As I went online, mostly here at Talkbass, I began reading stories about QC, and about two problems in particular:
1.) The output jack was supposed to be a weak link; mine went after about 9 years. That may sound like a long time, but my Jackbass did not get heavy use. Also consider that my 1979 Ibanez Musician got more use, and the output jack is still good after 38 years!
2.) I remember reading here, about a few Jackbasses that had fretboards separating from the neck. I think they must have been in one batch, because after these were fixed, I didn't read about this problem anymore.
I guess when a company makes a hollow body, and doesn't enforce strict quality control, certain problems appear that should not.
I had my bass setup, and the output jack repaired in October, so hopefully, it will be alright for a while. One thing I did not get fixed, was the varitone switch. The 50 and 500 settings are fine, but you have to jiggle it a little to get sound on 250, but I don't care; I always leave mine at 50. There really should be no problem with a switch that's hardly used, but I thought I would mention this in case anyone else was having this problem.

Love your black pickguard. I was considering such, the white one looks like a plane jane to me. When I removed my white one, it looked good with none, so I left it without one.
Regarding the earlier question about just one side of the transformer being mounted, that is the way it is supposed to be. The side that is screwed in goes into one of the wood strips that run the center of the body.
Regarding country of manufacture, there is a South Korean company called Samick Musical Instruments Company that makes hollow basses for pretty much all the major US brands. Samick has plants in China as well as many other far eastern countries.

I got lucky with my JC, the fit and finish was spot on. They had a white one too, it wasn't as good. Went with what felt right.
Interesting about the transformer.
I never noticed it, so it must be out of the way.
I'll take a look later.

To get inside, I pulled out the pup (remove the outer bezel screws only).
The wood it’s mounted on is thick enough so it’s off the bottom enough for the wiring to enter it as well. It’s a potted transformer, but still pretty light and I saw no reason to doubt it’s secureness with just one screw holding it in place.

Yeah, Jack Casady and Phil Lesh were using Pyramid (gold?) flatwounds. From memory they had to scrape a bit of the silk off the strings at the nut to make them fit their Starfires properly.
The transformer in my older Peerless-built JC didn't have the right angled bracket, and it was flopping around loose when I received the bass. I screwed it into the body of the bass, under the pickup (and pushed back a bit, as it was fouling the underside of the pickup). The wood Epiphone/Peerless used for the internal fluting is very soft, so the screws didn't feel very secure. I also worried about nice pointy screw-tips appearing out the back of the bass.
As I've gutted my JC, I'm tempted to spoon the electronics from it into a different bass. The pickup is quite deep as it has the hookup eyelets mounted to the underside.
