I'm a known bass hoarder. OTOH, I do play them, too. I was rotating through a bunch of my faves this AM, laying down some grooves, and I picked up my EJC. This one really does deserve the accolades. It's inexpensive, beautifully made, and has a huge, gorgeous sound. I have no problems with the old-school bridge...so far.
If you ever want to add a semi-hollow to your collection, and want to do it on the cheap, this is a real winner. Plus for many of us is that it's a 34 inch scale, not a shorty like many hollow and semi-hollow instruments.
Here's a couple pics. One shows me with some of my faves in the BG...but that's just to show that I hold this one in high esteem and it's in some good company: the Marcos are also superb. Happy playing to all.
I've picked them up in stores from time to time and thought they were nice...Im personally holding out for a Guild star fire ii though if i ever get a hollow body
I think at one time these were sold through Fur Peace Ranch and setup by Jack himself.
Wow! AFA the Guild vs the Jack, I recommend playing both. I was in the same position, took a chance on the Jack, and I really love it. I have a pile of hollowbodies and the only one that beats it overall for me is a custom Drake that was many times the price.

I got mine in January, 2001, and still love it.
A few years ago, the output jack went, and I didn't get it fixed until last October, plus I had it set up for the first time.
In the past few months, I got my Ibanez BTB set up, bought a Boss GEB-7 bass EQ, and bought an Ibanez Portamento, so I've had a choice of things to play.
The other day, I plugged in my Jackbass after 3 weeks of not playing her, and what a tone!
Between the bass finally being set up, and now being familiar with the EQ, the tone is fantastic!
And the varitone is always on 50; the best sound in my opinion.
If you've never played one, put it on your list or better yet, buy one sound-unheard like I did.
After 17 years, it is still a pleasure to open the case, and I feel it's the best bass purchase I've made.
I'd love to get a 20th anniversary for the looks, buy I don't need another one.

That sunburst is gorgeous. I have a goldtop, and its become my main bass for my Americana project. I have flats on it now, pondering going back to rounds for more GRRR, but even with rounds, this thing can get seemingly a million sounds. I keep mine set on 250, and play through a Peavey rig, VB2 into a 215.

If these were currently available in this finish, I'd probably have one.
My Drakes are definitely the real deal and play easy for me, as they should. It took me some time to adapt to the Jack but it is awesome in its own right. And I got mine at a great price.
Are there any pickup swap options for these?
I've found a used one that has a chrome pickup cover. I don't remember seeing a stock config like that so I'm assuming it has been changed in some way but I'm not sure.

Agree on both. The Jack is fantastic. The Drakes are luxury instruments... Both are a delight to play.
Well... I’m in. Ordered it today and can’t wait to get it. I played one in a local GC and found it irresistible. Photos in the near future.
Picked this one up last week. Right off put a set of LaBella DTFs on it and have a set of Gotoh Res-o-lites ready to go, but will need to have my tech do it, as it will require filling the old peg holes and drilling new ones, something I'd rather leave to a shop with the right tools for the job. Anyway, I friggin' LOVE this thing. Acoustically surprising how much volume I'm getting out of it, and with a band it really shines. As a lifelong acoustic guitar player, and a love of ES guitars, the body on this feels right at home and I love the big old neck, perfect in my hands. I only wish there was a US version with upgraded woods and hardware.

Thanks, it has a lot of character! The best description I could give of the tone of this bass is, it sounds to me at least, like an acoustic P bass.
yeah, I'd agree. I am finding it to be an incredibly versatile bass.
