Epiphone Sixx Thunderbird

Hey guys and galz, I am a band leader (metal), and have a question. My bass player is thinking of getting an Epi Sixx 4 string. Now I wld never tell one of my players what guitars to play, but I am curious about its quality.
So, what's ur opinion on this bass? I'd like to hear from players who have played this bass more than jst 5 minutes at Guitar Center.

I have three thunderbirds. If I were playing metal, I would probably want an active bass with EMG pickups.

As a band leader, you can count on consistent bass sounds from an instrument with no volume or tone knob. My brother in law has one and likes it so much, he's building another instrument with the same control setup.

I guess in your position the main thing to worry about would be the sound, since you won't be playing it, and it has "the look." I'd say it's solid tone-wise, nothing to worry about.

It's actually a really nice bass. The day before a recording session my Gibson Thunderbird had an electronics problem. So I took my Epi Blackbird. (Which I hadn't played in months) After recording, the engineer gave me tons of compliments on the sound. He was blown away by it. He bought if from me a few weeks later.

It's a great bass for rock. It really cuts through the mix if the mids are turned up. Even has a good feel for slap style. It's sort of over looked by a lot of people, but it kills!

Great bass at a great value. It barks like nobodys business and is well suited to all rock styles. It heavily depends on your style of metal (read: how thick are the guitars?) if it will work in your band.

Thunderbirds have a dark tone, more bass/low mid heavy with few treble, if any. The Sixx is no exception. Expect to feel the bass a lot, and it's punch should cut through good. It won't shine with sophisticated articulation

And: it sounds killer when played with a pick!

They're both neckthru, for the authentic Thunderbird experience but, while the former sports usual dual volume and overall tone control, it keeps the traditional 3 pivots bridge, not so easy to adjust if you ever demand a dowtunin'
The latter has a proficent himass bridge that can handle downtunin' with ease and, even if keepin' its unmistakeable look and feel, volume/panpot/bass/treble can dial in lotta power and an unexpected midscoop.
