EQ pedals

Hey all I have right now is a crappy practice amp that has very limited tone controls and can't afford a new amp anytime soon so if I buy an eq pedal would I be able to sculpt my tone into a lot of different tones

an EQ pedal makes all the difference.

but even more importantly, a wah pedal can make all the difference too. I use it Steve Vai style, but just leaving it all the way down. for my wah pedal, leaving it down gives me a very sharp, chuggy tone.

hahaha the usual i guess...u know, Boss Bass EQ pedal.

for the Wah, it's really up to u. Since i use it for tonal purposes, i suppose it would've been nice to have a wah that could have its parameters changed.

i use that "cheap one" from target, but i love it to death, its great

Both the Boss and MXR graphic EQ pedals are pretty good quality for the money. You can find them used for good prices on Ebay any day; or you can buy a new one from someplace with a good return policy, so you can try different ones out and send them back if you don't like them.

I love my local store...such a 60's vibe to it..old and dusty. I got my bass EQ for 40 dollars, what a deal!

however, i spent 80 on a noise gate, it was vintage tho, hahhaah....speaking of that, i can't remember the last time i used that thing.

It's not stupid, its actually, probably, the best question u could ever ask.

basically, it "limits the dynamic range of the signal"

so lets say, your school band teacher says "your song should have more dynamics" then he's asking u to not be playing at the same volume...a.k.a, robotically

in essence, u can level off volume spikes, make the quieter notes more consistent with the rest of your playing, increase sustain. Those sort of things.

so basically, it can help your playing sound more consistent.

the really, really good question, is how to set one up.

personally, I just set every parameter very conservatively, i find that it works just fine that way.

Thats the same one I RECENTLY got. Seeing as how I never turn it off I dont miss the foot switch. The only thing that would be nice is if it had input and output volume sliders...but if it were that much of a problem I could have just bought the newer one. I would recommend these or the newer MXR 10 bands over the Boss.
