Eric Church cancels a sold-out show because he got Final Four tickets.

I'm a HUGE Boston Red Sox fan.
I'm a large fanatic of anything I'm fanatical about, but in my younger days I was a medium sized fanatic.
I would cease being a fanatic of any artist that ditched a show so they could attend a sporting event. I honestly hope the fanatics take it as a sign of how dedicated to them the artist is & vote with their feet next time.

He has six #1 singles, and is worth north of $10,000,000. I think it is a safe bet that not more than .14% of TB members have done more playing music.
Again- WHO CARES!

That doesn't give him license to be such a douche.

All that money came from the pockets of those he blew off.

Maybe touring isn't his favorite thing to do, but it's kinda how you pay back your fans for their support.

I never said it was, but "this guy is a nobody" is not a great response.

Reading James Michener’s “Sports in America” (1976) when I was younger really soured me on the whole “sports-as-an-industry” thing.

And it’s not like a typical industry when almost all of your employers and employees (post-collegiate) are bonafide millionaires and are elevated to demi-gods by an adoring fan base.

I certainly don’t see that in my industry.

The sports industry is an entertainment industry. Like the music, movie and TV industries, it depends on its stars' popularity to thrive. The biggest names in sports are going to be paid on a scale comparable to A-list movie stars. All too often they also behave just as ungraciously.

It deflects the subject. By saying "Who?" it implies that it hardly matters because it's "just" a country artist and they're "just" backwoods hicks who like his horrible music.

It's belittling of the whole situation.

Wow! Judge much?

I especially enjoyed your suggestion that lying would be a better option!

I'm so glad you enjoyed that -yes a little white lie deployed to save someone's feelings is perfectly in order sometimes -

Yes- Judge. Judy. Executioner.

Remember:
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it's wrong.

Avoid cliches like the plague.

Above all, proofread carefully to make sure you don't any words out.

My take on the sentiment of Who is that crowd is that it if someone more well known did this it would be bad enough - But it’s even worse for someone who is not. It makes him more famous but for the wrong reason, and hurts the chance of gaining new fans.

Sorry didn’t mean to insert in the middle of the quoted post. Take 2:

UNC lost the final last night after blowing a 15-point halftime lead. So to Eric Church, I say

But when THOUSANDS of people have made plans, bought tickets, booked hotels, held that date in a major venue, rearranged other plans, etc. this is one selfish move!!!

When I first heard about this, I honestly thought it was a joke, because I just couldn't imagine any big star doing something this selfish and callous to his/her fans.

I agree with you, and others here -- this was just a *completely* douche'y move for him, and just proves that his priorities have become scrambled, and he doesn't give a rat's @$$ about *the very people* who made him such a huge celebrity and provide him with his luxury lifestyle!

I'm not a fan of the current "cancel culture" but in this case, I think that both he and his career need to be cancelled, so that he can spend some quality time trying to learn the proper obligations of fame and stardom!

Eric Church cancels sold-out concert to attend UNC-Duke Final Four showdown

Wow. OK, I'm a HUGE Boston Red Sox fan. I would go to some great lengths to see them in a World Series game. Give up my favorite bass? Sure. It's just a thing and can he replaced. Travel and spend lots of money for tickets/flight/hotel? Yep. Reschedule a previously-booked vacation? Yes, but only because my wife and daughters are also big Sox fans and would do the same. Cancel a bar gig at Stinky's Fish Fry and Beer Garden? Absolutely. But only because I could easily make a few phone calls and have them a replacement act for the same price (and equally good as we are).

But when THOUSANDS of people have made plans, bought tickets, booked hotels, held that date in a major venue, rearranged other plans, etc. this is one selfish move!!!

And even I wouldn't miss a friend's wedding or a huge anniversary party for a relative or anything like that.

I get that stars have lives outside their art. I don't think they should sacrifice EVERYTHING for their fans. But this is a bridge too far for me.

What say you?
