Okay, so I'm getting ready to order a Stingray SLO. I can't order from BassCentral or ThePerfectBass because I'm a canadian person with a canadian credit card. I'm hesitant to order from Musiciansfriend and they still dont have an ETA on them.

And ClubBass in Toronto just informed me, after 3 days of e-mailing back and forth setting up my options and specs, that they don't carry EBMM any more. Long and Mcquade wasn't a dealer the last time I was in, and Steve's is not an option.

I live in Ottawa and can deal with shipping. Anyone have ANY suggestions? I'm at a loss and getting frustrated lol.

  2. Long and McQuade do stock them now. Its never very many but they are there.

Never had problems ordering from BassCentral - in fact they are quite helpful...customer service is really good and Beaver even checked up to see if their sales guy got back to me.

Long and McQuade stock them in limited numbers.

My suggestion is to give the "Guitar Booth" in Hamilton (Cdn distributor) a call or email and see if any of the Canadian retailers have exactly what you want...again, they were very helpful in me getting to try out a Sterling by MM Ray 35...

EBMM has strict dealer agreements about US dealers not being allowed to sell brand new product out of US borders.
The only exceptions is discontinued models over 2yrs old.

Correct. I've even tried to use an american shipping address of a friend. I cannot purchase from BassCentral except in person.

As for L&M, I didn't know that they were a dealer now. I'll have to stop by and see if they can do an order. I've delt with them in the past and they were always good.

As for buying privately, it's going to be hard to get a used bass that hasn't hit stores yet lol.

Not sure if you have these out east, but Mother's Music carries them as well.

    Edit: No affiliation, btw

L&M has always been a MM dealer, even going back to the preEB days from what I understand. The Vancouver stores always had product when I've been stopped by.

i was at steves a couple days back, they had rays

also toronto's craigslist constantly has stingrays on them

  9. On a side note, the new SBMM models aren't in at L&M yet, but should be soon. I've been bugging them for info for the last month or so and they were at least able to give me their prices (CDN):

    Sterling SB14 $745 plus taxes
Sterling Ray34 $810 and up plus taxes
Sterling Ray35 $880 and up plus taxes

I was initially GASing for an SB14 but I think I'll just save my cash and buy a used EBMM Sterling off of TB (my college grad gift to myself, provided I have enough OSAP left over :D). I live close enough to the states that I could head over for a weekend to pick one up.

Thanks for all the replies guys, but the model I'm looking for isn't out yet. Stingray SLO, so I have to make an order through a dealer or wait around for at least 6 months for a used one to pop up. Likely much longer.

I'll go into L&M and talk to someone but the 20%+ price increase on the low level SBMM makes me nervous.

The L&M on Bloor in Toronto has quite a good selection of EBMM gear. They just got in one of the anniversary ones with the H/S/S pickup arrangement, they had a Bongo 6 for a while (may still be there). L&M definitely does get EBMM stuff all the time, probably better selection at the big stores (Bloor as well as the new one in Markham) but the smaller locations can always transfer in a piece that a customer wants.

In Montreal, Steve's and especially Italmelodie both have pretty good stocks of Musicman basses. Italmelodie is a new MM dealer and has some really nice stuff--Sterling Ball was in there last summer and insisted he wanted Ital to carry MM, despite the fact that Steve's had been the Montreal dealer for quite some time.

I never seen a musicman at Italmeldie... Do they carry them now?

  14. I think Steve's and L&M are your only options locally in Ottawa. I got my SR5HH Dargie from L&M 2 years back.
They may not know what the SLO is, so be prepared to bring them up to speed. Ask for one of the MM specialists...

Developing a relationship with a good retailer like Long & McQuade will pay off in the long run.

There's always more things which one will need and L & M frequently has sales.

BTW. They have an excellent bass dept. at their 925 Bloor Street West (Toronto) store.

I bought both my Rays from L&M in Vancouver and its worked out very well. They don't tend to carry many Bongos for some reason but I'm a lefty and both my Ray4 and Ray5 were in stock items that the store had brought in on spec.

L&M is a very fair store to deal with. I had a problem with my Ray4 a year after i bought it and they paid the shipping to send it to the SLO factory and facilitated the repair. When the bass was shipped back from California, it arrived with the case completely smashed on one end. The salesman at L&M didn't hesitate and brought me out a brand new case from the back and replaced it on the spot. I was impressed and really appreciate that kind of service.

Thanks a bunch guys, probably still going into L & M later this week but the other day on the way I home I went through International Musicland in Barrhaven. Went in to get a 8$ pack of acoustic strings and walked out with a quote direct from his MM supplier.

Great Service, and amazingly its cheaper than getting one in the US. Anyone wants anymore info, I'd be glad to PM you. On top of that he suggested I wait until the Canadian NAMM in August so they have the SLO on the updated price list.
