Not any use, but I didn't have much clicking with my 2006 HH 'ray.

There was some clicking, but that was more me needing to work on my technique, something that Stingrays certainly don't let you get away with!

Are you maybe hitting the strings off the pickups poles? What is the action like, maybe too low?

Rays are known for that attribute, BUT, if you cant do anything to mediate the clank it may have as much to do with your amp. I have and use as my main bass a Stingray and ive found that some amps are voiced in a way that REALLY accentuate that sound no matter how you EQ them unless you ruin the tone as you pointed out. However, some other amps seem to just need a little cut in the upper mids and VOILA! perfect tone.

I for one have NEVER like EB strings on a Stingray as they seem to also accentuate the clicky clank. GHS and Diaddarios give me a much fuller richer Stingray tone with less clank.

what other gear are you using with it?

If you are getting clicking it's most likely a combination of setup (action too low) and sloppy technique.

All of the above and I also had a 210 bottom with a horn that really brought out the clack and shut that down and clack dissapeared. Now if I was slapping the horn would go back on.

Yeah I think part of it, as you said, could have to do with your aluminum cone speakers, among other things. I can dial out some of that clankity sound with the VLE knob on my LMIII, which is one of the reasons I absolutely love that amp. I like to dial it out when I'm playing jazz stuff, or rock/funk etc where I need a smoother tone. I also agree with the EB strings being a bit bright for my taste...I've taken to DR strings as of late, they have treated me well, albeit expensive

This is on my SR5 by the way...been my main bass for about 8 years now.

Most EB bass string packs have orange on them, with the Hybrid packs being mostly orange...
You could try one of the other distinctly-different EB bass strings (nickels, stainless, or flats).

Naw--I'm going back to my tried and true Made in England Rotosound strings. I've used them forever and that is a long time. Why I even bought a set of something else--I don't know. I have ventured outside the box before only to suffer shamefull defeats. It was cast down from the bass Gods that I should only ever play bass with Rotosound strings. That is the way it shall be.

You can tell me all about Dr. Funk and Messy Gravy bass strings but it will not change my mind. I won't be phased. I won't budge. It's ROTO's or I throw the bass down in some gravel. Thank you. SGSU (Supreme God of the Sun and Universe)

+1 Rotos are still my favorite. Markley Blue Steels are pretty good too for their unique mid character

I love Rotos. Also love EB Hybrids (the "orange" pack), but I have found that they lack consistency. I've put some on that just sounded dead out of the pack, and some that sing. They feel better than Rotos too. BTW I owned a Stingray HH and swapped out the preamp for a John East pre w/ sweepable mid control. It helped a great deal. Actually one of the few basses I regret selling.
