Never tried them before, but I put a set on my Bongo and WOW. I guess EBMM strings and EBMM basses are a great match! Nice tight B string and since we play in a dropped tuning, the strings have plenty of tension.

Ernie Ball Power Slinkys

I think I might try a set of EB strings. Played em on a gig this weekend, and I was pleased with their playability over a 4 hour period.
I haven't had very good luck with EB strings. They seem to die faster then other strings for me and the only strings I've ever snaped were all EB. They do have a good tone right out of the package though. Too bad it doesn't last.
I had them tuned standard on my 4-string ESP for about three months, and they are pretty nice. I do not like the sound of fresh nickel-wounds, but in my opinion - the Ernies sound better when they are dead. Tension wise, they are one of the heaviest sets I had used.
I ran Power Slinkys for awhile on my 78 P-Bass and liked them a lot. Now the P-Bass wears flats but I've been using Slinkys on my Ibanez BTB and they do nicely there too.
Not a lot of love on TB for EB strings, it seems, but I personally have never had any problems with them, and the price is right.

I like the sound of them, but agree that they do seem to die quicker than some other strings.
Though not possessing the initial zing of new Slinkies, i've found that the coated slinkies maintain the tone and vibe of Slinkies that have been played for a few hours, and keep that consistent tone for quite a while. And they do not have the odd coated feeling of Elixir's, etc.
Currently I have my musicman basses strung with Dunlop Nickel and Stainless strings, but depending on the outcome of this test there's a good chance I'll also transition these basses to Coated SLinkies.

I used to get these strings all the time. Loved the way they sound out of the package but they would not last long. Currently using DR Lo riders and I love these. IMHO I still don't think EBs sound bad worn in. I just think they sound better new.
Ernie Ball's are some of the greatest strings you can find if you switch them out between every show. Some people have 3 sets they rotate between denatured alcohol baths and use em forever.
