Error in stringing...............

I haven't mixed up any strings yet, but fret dressing and cutting nut slots is getting to be a risk these days. In fact any delicate detailed work is getting to need magnification, very good lighting and constant checking. I do enjoy building guitars and basses, but I think my days might be numbered. Instrument building is about the only time I feel almost seventy. Though there may be a degree of self delusion involved....:whistle: ;) :meh:

I never mixed strings to the wrong slots, but I did not have tuning down cold at first, so I'd get it strung and try and tune to a pitch pipe (! ! !) and sure enough POING !!!! broke a few until I bought a Korg tuner that would generate pitches to get me in the ballpark.

Appreciate it but I'm good. I went out and bought 2 5string sets and changed the strings this afternoon. I also had 2 4string sets available if needed.

Guess I'll have to buy a new set of strings. Gah!

I do have a couple of 4 string sets where I can use the A string if needed.

f*** these aging eye problems my friend. I seriously couldn't positively tell some guitar strings apart the other day without my damn bifocals on. The string will probably hold just fine, good luck to you ;)

Yea I wear progressives.... talk about frustrating, bifocals or progs, they are great for regular life, progs specially so. But for this kind of thing? Just a huge pain that never work right and fall off when you finally get them in a location that lets you see for a couple of seconds.

Hey, it's easy to get a bit absent-minded...

One time I was loosening the strings on a 4 + 1 bass, to take them off intact. (I clean dead strings in an alcohol soak tube, and get a couple passes out of them.) Yep, I got to thinking about something else, turned the G tuner in the wrong direction, and popped the string.

No worries. I have done things like this. Once I cut an expensive nylon tape wound G much too short on a 2+2 headstock. Wasted a perfectly good string. It happens.
