Ok, I've been playing bass since the early 70's. Not once in all my years have I ever incorrectly strung a bass. About a month ago, I put new strings on my Lakland 5 string. I played it a few times and something felt off but I didn't pay it no mind. I happened to grab it last night and again, the A & D strings feel weird especially the D. Seemed to be higher than the rest of the strings. So I sight down the neck to check for a bow and I noticed the D string was fatter than the A. WTH??? I had the strings switched. Unfortunately I had cut the strings to match the posts but lucky I had enough length for the A string to reach the post and get 1 solid wind. Don't know if it will hold. Guess I'll have to buy a new set of strings. Gah!
I do have a couple of 4 string sets where I can use the A string if needed.
