Even without tone controls you can't get past the transformers (OTs), resistors, pots, caps and wiring with stray fields.
Sure you can. Many amps have extremely flat response with THD levels that are virtually unmeasurable, let alone audible. But not musical instrument integrated amps.
 
Hmmm....the pricey cable gets the lowest votes....so it must sound the worst....so we're supposed to pay extra to make it sound worse, right? Do I win?
LOL! Funny you mention that. There's a video of the head of ESP doing a demo where he's playing music and has two cabs rigged up to different amps, one with a cheap cord, one with the ESP, and it's only a Youtube vid shot with a camera mic, but I swear to you that when he switched to the amp with the ESP cord, it sounded worse to me. I chalked it up to the idea that the camera was in a bad place in the room for picking up both cabs...now I know that this cord actually makes stuff sound worse!
