ESP MusicCord

OK, check it out. A TB'er is sending me an ESP Musicord PRO for testing. I have some good test amps, including a Hughes & Kettner Blues Master, which has a 5 watt tube power amp connected to a dummy load, with a line output--so it is essentially perfect for testing the behavior of a tube amp with different power cords, and running the output directly into a recording interface.

What I need though is some help with a demo bass recording, something that covers a wide range of dynamics, with high fidelity and low noise. I would then run that recording through a load box that would raise the output impedance up to a range typical of a passive bass, which would then feed into the H&K or other test amp.

So if one or more of you could email me a recording, say 2 minutes, 24/96, .wav or other lossless format, that would be awesome. PM me for my email address, or if you have any clarifying questions.

The idea is I would make three or more audio clips and post them here, so people can guess which one(s) were made with the ESP power cord.

Ready?

I could send you some 24/96 clips.

Did they happen to do any measurements to prove their claims?

Yeah, length and girth. But still kinda' flat...:p

I think this thread is finally reaching some sort of conclusion. When I started reading it I already knew more or less where it was going, but what surprised me was that the scientific arguments of the 'nay sayers' actually came through and, eventually, received reasonable and accepting responses from the 'believers:' Robin came to doubt his ears in a healthy way and Cybersnyder accepted the possibility of a placebo effect, all in fairly good humour. This is not always the case on TB. I have few to no doubts as to Bongomania's results from his testing, as the facts of the matter are still incontrovertible. Nice to rebuke some snakeoil.:)

I think this is one of the positive effects of internet discussions, the ability to expose some of the scams that make the gear market a labyrinth of useful advise and downright lies. Someone mentioned that such a debate as this would only benefit the company in the end, but I really don't believe that is true in this case; too many solid arguments have been made against the marketing claims.

What would cap this off would be to have Jauqo participate in a blind test, but to be fair that would put him in an awkward situation as he is an endorser (whether paid or not, this will have some implications), so let's play nice and let it all die out here. Peace.:)

it is true in this case--there is no such thing as bad press. With this cable, it's bringing the cable to everyone's attention, and especially with the deep divide between the people that say it works and the people say say it doesn't is going to lead a bunch of people to buy the cable and try it out themselves. my guess would be 50% of the people will like it, and 50% of the people will not hear a difference. Heck, even if one person buys the cable and keeps the cable because of this thread, that was a free sale for ESP. Although to be honest, I came into this thread early and never gave a thought that this wasn't the ESP that makes guitars ;)

I think once Mark Reccord and Bongomania receive the cord and do some testing it should pretty much end this debate once and for all. Over 13,000 views so far.....

I was hoping Michael Griffin, president of Essential Sound Products who btw has been following this forum would have made an appearance (obviously he's a no show) :hmm: C'mon Mike what's up with that???

Ha ha ha! This debate will never end as long as there are people who want to believe more than they want to understand.

What would he have to gain by participating in this thread?

Yay!

The test won't prove a thing to those who say they can hear a difference. They will continue to hear it, with their gear. Waste of time IMO.
i don't think that's what the test is for. The test is to find out if there is an actual difference in sound. So far it's been a lot of people saying yes and no, but offering no real proof other than "I can hear it" vs. "I can't hear it" so i would imagine the testing (or at least the testing I would like to see) is if there is an actual difference in the sound. It makes no attempt to sway beliefs, just to find out the truth. If the believers want to keep believing, that's ok.

I can see the argument of: "if it makes someone play better & thus, sound better - even if it is psychosomatic...". But, it sucks that there's a company misleading people and profitting off of it. It's not illegal, but it's definitely unfortunate.
