ESP MusicCord

You're missing the main point. Every one is not the same.

Correct.

Some people have better eyesight than others. Doesn't mean those people aren't susceptible to optical illusions.

In fact - the only people who aren't susceptible to optical illusions are folks whose vision (or brain processing of vision) doesn't work right.

Hearing things that aren't really there doesn't mean your ears are bad. It often means your ears and associated brain processing are working correctly.

You're missing the main point. Every one is not the same.

Absolutely that's true, Jauqo! And everybody's hearing is different too, right? For example, you are proud of your extremely sensitive hearing abilities - which is great! :)

However, we are all subject to the same limitations of the laws of physics. And as such, the ESP MusicCord attempts to suggest otherwise.

The above concepts represent two entirely different points of information that can exist entirely independent of each other. Agreed?

but how can you be 100% sure that your brain isn't tricking you?

I'm more than sure that my brain isn't tricking me. Especially with the Dan DeMars scenario.

He asked me to give his bass a listen and to share my thoughts.

If my brain was tricking me I would not have detected what no one else was able to. When I listen I listen extremely attentively.

Any one here can contact Dan DeMars and I'm sure he would be glad to explain what happened.

Scotch my thing with the ESP power cord is that I can hear a difference in tone and that's all I've ever said.

I'm not mad because some can't hear a difference Because I know that every one is not the same nor do they have the ability to be the same.

It is what it is.

Totally. I hear you 100%. I think that sometimes the communication in this thread breaks down because the following statements are not congruent (for example):

"The ESP MusicCord makes my amplifier sound clearer and louder."

"When I use my ESP MusicCord, my amplifier sounds clearer and louder to me."

Two very different statements that imply very different things! You would identify more with the second statement, right?

True, but nobody is superhuman. I'm not saying you don't have better hearing for details than most, Jauqo. But all of us have senses, and they can all be tricked. Optical illusions are a great example. So are the sensations amputees often have where they feel like they still have the amputated limb attached, even though it's clearly evident that the limb is gone. It's not a new idea, and nobody is immune to it.

As for the speck of dust on the pizeo pickup, a spectrograph of the waveform would have shown that you actually did hear it that way. Where's the spectrographs proving what these cables do? If these cables did what they claim, I don't know of a single reputable manufacturer who wouldn't endorse their usage with their amps. So where's his list of endorsing manufacturers? All he's got are musicians and studio owners, and sorry, I need engineers to get behind it to believe it because I know how easily the ears can be tricked.

But if you truly believe your ears can't be tricked, do a blind test. You have nothing to lose.

The people who didn't believe echinacea worked before the study showed zero improvement. Didn't matter whether they were given echinacea, placebo, or nothing. All the same results.

The people who believed in echinacea before the study all saw about 25% reduction in length of cold. Didn't matter whether they were given echinacea or a placebo.

Basically - believing it worked made it work.

Your Mom offered you things with the thought that you'd feel better.:) We should go back to AC cables because the body has so many variables. In that test alone did they quantify that everyone had equal Vit.C or sleep or fluids, allergies....

No, Like I said. I hear a difference in my tone.

Jimmy I have said earlier in this very thread that there is a possibility of my brain tricking me but my thing, once I'm asked to listen, I'm asked to listen and detect something. Usually how something changes in sound. In the case of the ESP power cord pro, again I hear a difference. In the DeMars scenario which I think took a little more effort because I was asked to not only listen but what were my overall thought(s) on the bass. And doing so I detected a uneven tonal output of the A string.

Again if one does or doesn't hear a difference between the ESP power cord and something that's considered standard then who is losing or winning.

Both parties should be satisfied with the end results.

If this whole ESP power cord is BS as many hear feel that it is, why isn't it against the law?

Who is losing? The consumer who thinks they are buying an ac cord that improves their amplifiers' performance.

Why isn't dishonesty in advertising against the law? Because there isn't a law against it.

IMHO , if you listen a to a normal IEC then get up your chair , change to the Magic IEC , get back on your chair , the fact that your ears has moved a foot in your listening room will have a lot more effect to the percieved sound than the IEC will have.

Just sayin'

(Of course doing those test in an Anachoic chamber would be ideal)

Scotch how is it losing if the consumer is satisfied with their purchase and it gives them what they want?

No different than some one paying 4, 5, 6K for a bass when many feel that the bass isn't worth it.

But sometimes later a few purchasers of such bass may feel they paid more for it than what they got.

Actually, that's a good point. I suppose if a placebo gives you the results you want, what's the harm? Alright, it's not how I like to spend my money, but you win that argument. Using psychological methods like that can certainly be effective! Reminds me a little bit of Lee Sklar's "do nothing" knob on his old p-bass! It kept engineers and producers at bay for decades... It's not life or death, after all,.. its bass tone! Lol.

If you're happy, salut. But false claims don't become true claims just because someone is happy with their purchase.

Actually it's extremely different. The most outrageous claims I ever hear any bass makers make is "our basses sound and play better than the competition's basses." That's subjective and open for opinion, and the improvements they make, while subject to personal taste, can at least be measured. Laws of electricical conductivity aren't open for discussion and have no room for interpretation. That's why they're laws, because they are repeatable and true 100% of the time.

Anyway, like I said, if you really believe in the ESP cord, then a blind test should be no problem, and if you guess right every time, this discussion is over, and you'll pick up 150 smackers to boot!

Jimmy I mention the part about people spending 4,5,6K on a bass only to make a point that they are happy while some feel that the bass is not worth it.

And remember Jimmy, I did mention that sometimes those who have spent that much for a bass later feel like it wasn't worth what they paid.

I wouldn't think the company would still be in business if there isn't some truth to the claims. I also don't think you'd have all these these positive comments from famous artists. Did anyone here even bother to read them?

Jauqo,

I don't think your brain is tricking you to believe anything. (You hear a difference in your tone) You can't say it any clearer then that and I can't see why anyone would even challenge you on that fact!

I can immediately tell a difference in my rig if something is changed, or when my strings are going dead etc. If it sounds better, that would even be easier to detect. If we all actually tried this cord then this debate would be valid.

The only thing I will attest to is after playing a few sets I might lose some of my highs do to ear fatigue.

Ya, stupid laws of physics!

;)

I'm totally behind Jauqo and whatever he believes. I'm just pointing out that nobody is infallible, but laws of physics, unless acted upon by some revolutionary technology that turns those laws upside down, ARE infallible. So where's the smoking gun with these cords? Looks like plugs and wires to me.

Well,
A) This high-end ac cable thing is nothing new. Whether or not the cables do what they claim is moot, as this thread should make obvious.

B) Regarding famous player endorsement, they are equally susceptible to psychological factors as anyone else. I run into the guitarist on their site regularly, i'll definitely be giving him a friendly hard time next we meet! ;-)

C) I'm not saying Jauqo or anyone else ISN'T hearing a difference. Just that the reason for the difference is most likely not due to the ESP's magical powers. How many times do I have to repeat that? One more, I guess... :-)

There is none, therein is the crux of the problem. Notice that of all those who think they hear a difference not one can explain why, nor for that matter does a single one understand how amplifiers work, let alone have the ability to design and build an amplifier from scratch.
These silly toys are right up there with the doo-dads that supposedly increase your car's gas mileage and horsepower. Not one has ever been proven to work.
Even with a continuous sine wave it would make no difference.

Thank you, sir!

So, if Bill is correct and current (heh) scientific laws agree with him...
