Esperanza Spalding on ACL

Wow! I had not seen a video of her in while, and it is easy to forget just how talented she is! Listening to her and watching her just fills me with joy. Everything about her is just beautiful. Of course, she is physically beautiful, but her music, including her choice of songs, her technique, the sound of her voice, everything is just beautiful.:) I just have a huge crush on her as an artist.

Check out some videos of her on youtube where she explains how she got so good. The woman has a work ethic second to none.

Finally, I love her electric tone. Any time someone goes in a different direction from the classic Jaco tone on fretless, I am happy. Jaco sounded wonderful, but he owns that tone so much that it is hard not to think of him when I hear it. I'm pretty sure is using both pickups and flatwounds. I hear a lot of upright in her approach to electric.:bassist:

It's disturbing not really because of the money that either of them make (I agree...I'm sure she's doing alright, and I don't begrudge Taylor Swift for making all the money that she can), but for what it says about what is popular and what people will pay money for.

+1
Nice punchy tone without the over-emphasis on mwaaah that so many fretless players seem to have.

Also she has a very nice light touch on the electric that I find lacking in many upright players.

Also also, great intonation! Dang, I'm not that accurate on my fretted bass!

i'd buy that if it wasn't for the fact that gk is a million times easier to get from backline companies than any other brand.
True, and I'm pretty sure a call to GK could of got her whatever she needed so,being that she is endorsing someone else now, this was after her contract ended and she was in transition

I just bought her album. After listening to it the whole way through I have decided that se should replace Tal. Not only does she play waaaay better than Tal, she sings and is pretty hot too. So musically entertaining and intelligent. All imo of course.
