Esperanza Spalding on ACL

This was an incredible performance. I must admit that I haven't listened to her at all. I just figured she was another over-hyped female bassist. I could not have been more wrong. She is an incredible talent. The singing, the playing, the looks;) Damn! For the person that said she's just as talented as Tal Wilkenfeld... Esperanza is in a completely different league than Tal. Tal is a mere child compared to Esperanza. Just from what I heard on ACL, I have no problem putting her in the leagues of Bona, Wooten, and the like. She is the total package.

Agreed on all counts. I very much enjoyed her performance, and had no idea she was so masterful on an electric. For the gearheads, it looked as if she was running her upright through an SWR California Blonde II, and the fretless Jazz Bass through an Eden head/410 cabinet. Her electric tone was interesting to me, rather more punchy than round. Plucky, in a way. Killer player and vocalist.

man, wasn't long ago she was endorsing gk. then she does acl with swr and eden, and now she's endorsing someone else. she must be collecting endorsements. some people do that.
