Should behave somewhat similar to open-baffle dipole subs, room position is key to achieve even bass response. They interact differently with room modes then non-dipole designs. When setup correctly, an open baffle sub can create a qualitative superior low-end experience compared to regular subs. But, not everyone likes this type of sound, e.g. it doesn't provide the "impact" a regular quality sub is able to deliver. They're two different worlds.

I know all about dipole...u/h frame, ripole..ECT. it takes a lot of displacement to do 35hz properly. What your stating is correct, doesn't load / pressurize the room

I'd still like to see the "planar" that can do that.
I remain optimistic.

Excursion of planars is pretty limited.
I would suspect that if one would increase the "cone" movement then the efficiency will drop significantly due to the increased distance to the magnets.
I'm no expert with planar drivers but I know how they work. Maybe ET Pro can prove us wrong, until then I stay skeptical.

I own and listen to music / through my Magnapan 1.7i Planer`s as a LISTENING System and they sound awesome. I do use a custom bass cabinet (on occasion) as a sub-woofer to accent additional bass response to the listening experience as still sound great without the sub. And no, I do not use a fancy amp to drive them. A good old Pioneer Elite suffices just fine.

Silly to think they (the Maggie`s) would function as a bass guitar speaker system.

Those Maggie 1.7's are 65" tall and the 3dB down point is 40Hz.

They're stating a 48" tall panel and 35Hz...of course no description at what level that 35Hz is happening.

The driven panels in the Maggies are smaller than the outside dimensions. For example, the outside dimensions of my MG-1cs are 60" x 22". Note the size of the driven panel in them.

The driven panels or the overall height of the speakers? The overall height of the speaker is 60"; the driver panels are 45" H x 9 1/4" W.

The MG-1's are 3dB down at 80Hz.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but for the sake of being at least pseudoscientific, do you have experience with planar magnetic drivers that would lead you to the conclusion that they would be less robust than a conventional driver?

Those remind me of the first Acoustats I heard in the '90's. I'm sure they're stunning.

Well kidos, it's real.
I was at their event last night in Costa Mesa (next to Anaheim and the NAMM Show) and put my ears on it. Holy cow! This thing is something special. I know one of their associates Giovanni DiSimone and he has been telling me about this for at least a year. I was skeptical like you all, no more.
I am starting a new company Basses Only (.com) and over the next few months we will start to show up in the typical places. We intend to carry this amp, well, if we have to carry it, it's not heavy! 16 lbs, haha. 400 watts, incredible sound. Linear like a mofo. It was in a horrible room (craft beer place called Synth Brewery, great people too!) that was all concrete and it still sounded killer.
The bass amp will start delivering in the

summer. I expect to have the NAMM show prototype in a few weeks after they finish getting its voicing dialed in. I will then start showing it around So Cal and I expect that people will be blown away like I was. What a cool product.

And do something about the aesthetics (look/industrial design) of the amp. At the moment it looks like a prototype from the mid '60s (the new Aguilar combo amp looks better ).

I would call it a Tie with Aggie Combo

If they redesign face plate and get rid of tiny knobs might be acceptable

I'm more concerned about the SPL not about how it sounds, its linearity or the wattage.
Still not convinced.

As soon as we have officially launched that is what we intend on doing. We are still in the development stage. This is why we are not discussing anything to do with pricing or that anything is for sale yet. This is simply stating that we are coming soon.

I'm pretty sure the clock starts once you're in a position to be promoting it rather than commenting on it as an observer. Doesn't matter if you're not building or selling it yet.

On other sites I see people with "Member of the trade" or similar rather than "Commercial user". More verbose but also more to the point about an account's relationship to a product or service.
