Double Bass EUB's

I'm a lifelong drummer, jazz and big band enthusiast. Retired last summer and started playing seriously again, just a few weeks ago. I'm in our church praise band. Taking drum and piano lessons and have always wanted to learn the base. Would love to build my own for starters.

I'm already in love with the Eminence Electric Upright. My pocket book isn't. I figure that's 5 years down the road. Any suggestions for a good electric upright fretless?

Palatino... Some like 'em right out of the box, some like to 'mod' them... Mine sounds great with some of the more minor modifications...

Ergo basses have a fair number of fans, and I will admit that they're mighty intriguing...

These are two of the less expensive, totally workable, starter uprights that can actually meet quite a few gigging requirements.

I've tried the Palatino stock... wasn't happy
Then I did serious modification to it.......still wasn't happy

So I sold the Palatino.... and I have an 4 string Ergo coming in a couple of weeks.

I've read a lot of posts on the Ergo before making the decision to get it. I also dug around the net for as much info as possible.

For $650 you get a US hand crafted made EUB.

You'll have to replace the string on the EUB when you get it, whether it's the Ergo, or the Palatino.

For the price I didn't think the Palatino was worth it.

If you could afford $2000 the Azolas are suppose to be really nice and made in the US as well, but you'll have to wait about 14 weeks to get one.

A friend has a Gold Tone and is happy with it. Check out used instruments, also.

I found a used Stagg EUB for $250, plays nice and sounds decent after I put a new set of strings on it and made some adjustments.
