I need to do some research on this. All this time, I thought I was doing my strings with this stuff:
https://www.shoplet.com/Beiersdorf-...oqq5QIVTNyGCh1bKQJmEAQYASABEgJXU_D_BwE&rtop=1
But it turns out I was using something called Eucerin Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme, which comes in a jar like this, is very similar to the original moisturizing cream I used to use in both the feel of the product and the looks of the jar (EDIT: This link is mislabeled):
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
And now I find both of those jars gone from the Eucerin website, and I see this red-capped jar just plain called called Eucerin Original Healing Creme:
Eucerin Original Healing Cream - 16oz
So at this point I'm just as confused as you. I haven't tried the red capped jar yet, but I have tried the other two, and quite frankly, I didn't notice any difference between the two either on my skin or my strings. So I'm going to write the company and ask what's up with this red capped jar.
Stay tuned...it may take a couple days to get an answer. In the meantime, I suppose there's no harm in trying the red-capped jar. I'd get some if I didn't have two giant jars of the Original healing Soothing Repair Creme already.
Also, I've found the house brands effective as well, though some are a little more runny than the real stuff. But they did work well.
Thanks a bunch for the info, Jimmy!
I did some research... here are the ingredients in the three versions:
Eucerin "Original Moisturizing Creme" (oldest version)
Ingredients: Water, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Ceresin, Lanolin Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone
Eucerin "Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme" (Jimmy's version, white cap)
Ingredients: Water, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Ceresin, Lanolin Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone
(Methylchloroisothiazolinone - a preservative with antibacterial and antifungal effects)
(Methylisothiazolinone - powerful synthetic biocide (antimicrobial) and preservative, used in numerous personal care products)
Eucerin "Original Healing Cream" (new version, red cap)
Ingredients: Water, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Ceresin, Lanolin Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Piroctone Olamine
(Phenoxyethanol - used as a preservative in cosmetic products and also as a stabilizer in perfumes and soaps)
(Piroctone Olamine - anti-fungal / anti-microbial agent, soothes inflamed skin, reduces flaking)
It looks like the three versions are the same, except for the last two ingredients. Those last two are preservatives and antimicrobials.
Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone have been used (separately and in combination) for years in numerous personal care products. They have recently been found to be responsible for many folks developing skin sensitivities.
This info is from Wikipedia:
In 2014, the European Commission Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety issued a voluntary ban on the mixture of Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone in leave-on products such as body creams. The measure is aimed at reducing the risk from and the incidence of skin allergies.
It appears that Eucerin has complied with the ban, and has reformulated the cream accordingly.
I doubt that the two preservatives are responsible for deadening bass strings (since the cream has the exact opposite effect!), and the rest of the ingredients are the same in all three versions.
So the new (red cap) stuff should work fine!
I'm gonna give it a try. Thanks JimmyM!!
