European luthiers

Hello everyone,

There is a lot of info available here about US made custom basses but not too many threads about European luthiers (except the biggest ones like Ritter, Sei and Jerzy). Althought the dollar is weak there are still quite a few problems when ordering a custom made bass from the States (shipping is pretty expensive, customs and taxes, which in Finland are about +25 % when ordering stuff outside EU).

So what I'd like to get here is info, pics and general discussion about different European luthiers. It might help people who are trying to find the luthier in Europe to make their dream bass. I tried to find a similar thread using the search function but didn't find anything really.

So I'll start with AV Basses (made in Czech Republic by Aleš Vychodil, Invalid Link Removed). I bought my first AV used about two years ago. Here you can find specs and some pics taken by the luthier (Invalid Link Removed). It is a very beautiful bass that now plays like a dream too. I had some problems with it within the last few months (didn't really play it at all for a half a year after I got my AV fretless) and it turned out that i couldn't really adjust the truss rod and make it play like I wanted it to anymore. I contacted the luthier who asked me to send the bass to him and he would check it for free (I just paid for the shipping). He ended up changing the truss rod and setting it up perfectly, fixing some cracs in the finnish and making the bass literally as new.

Secondly I have a fretless AV, which I ordered about a year ago, and got it after 3-4 months wait (Invalid Link Removed). This bass is a pleasure both to play and to look. I love this bass. Usually just looking of this bass (as also playing) makes the GAS (temporarily:D) go away.

I don't have soundclips (at least yet) but if you got some of your bass please share.

To sum my experiments with AV basses and the luthier Aleš Vychodil, I am a very satisfied customer. I never had problems with the luthier and I can only deeply recommend him to everyone.

Ok, everyone with European made custom basses, share your info and show those basses (I'm also very interested to see if there are other AV Bass owners here and how many).

One of my favourites - Gus

Here's my pair of Gus G3s, a fretted 5 and a fretless 4

Those Gus guitars and basses have some really interesting ideas. Propably very ergonomic.

I have also heard some very good stuff about those WT basses. Can't wait that someone who owns one comes in and tells and shows what the hype around them is all about.

It's morning already in here so let's bump this up.

Those Jerzys look amazing, too bad I can't afford one yet. Aries basses look also very beautiful and classy. There has been a few posts about them here saying that they are very well built but expensive, if I remember correct. Would also love to get my hands on a Lefay remington steele one day...
