Double Bass Evah Pirazzi strings megathread part I

Finally got a set of these and all I can say right now is wow. Played a few gigs on them and have been really impressed. Amplified sound is really strong for me, using a Full Circle and AMT mixed into a WW.
I switched over from Animas, which I had on for about two years. I really liked the recorded sound of the Animas on my bass, but was never huge on the looseness of the strings. The Pirazzis have some more tension, but not too tight. The bowed sound is great, I was truly shocked. Coming from the Animas it was so much easier to bow on these strings it was a true treat.
At the gig last night one of the guys looked at my bass and figured I had put on an old set of strings and was complimenting the extra loudness and sound coming from it. He didn't believe they were new strings, I have to say I agree. They sound really good right out of the package, not that twangyness of new strings. I am hoping the E opens a little more, but after three gigs it is sounding better and better.
At least for the next few months I think I found my strings.....

My E Evah opened up a lot in a month or so. Now it's just really balanced well with the other three. If your experience is similar to mine, you will find that the tension will relax over time. They're still not as relaxed as Animas were on my bass, but they're not as tight as they were out of the package.
The arco is addictive. I'm a lot more likely to dive headlong into an arco solo now.

The arco is addictive. Found myself actually contemplating going all out for the arco solo the other night but decided, maybe not yet. It is so nice to be able to work on things with the bow again and only think about the fingerings as opposed to having to overwork to get the bow to speak nicely. Glad to hear the E will get even better with time.
Its been awhile since I have used Obligatos, but for me these are a little tighter than I remember the Ob's being.

Yes, I had the animas on for about two years before this past week. Loved them a whole lot, the only thing I wasn't thrilled about was they were a little loose and the arco wasn't all that great (though some of that would be my own limitations). The Pirazzis at least make it seem like I am doing something right with the bow.
I don't know about the actual tension numbers... but they felt quite a bit stiffer at the beginning, and now.... well, it's hard to say, maybe it's been too long since I played a set of Oblis on my bass. The Evahs just have a more overall substantial feel. I could push Obligatos and hit the wall pretty quickly, but the Evahs seem like I can push them as hard as I want, and they just keep giving me more back.
i thought the Obligatos were very flexible but after two years they seem to be getting stiff, maybe just the change of seasons here in Vermont or age catching up with me, seems like i'm working harder for the same result, perhaps i should just get off my pc and change my strings... after tomorrow's session

Finally got a set of these on my new bass, and I love the sound. I was wondering, though, if any one else has the A-string roll. It's driving me nuts. Is a rolling string something that can be fixed by a different set up? I really dig the sound of these strings.
I use Obligatos, I like they very mutch, but on my bass the A and E strings are a bit weak and lacks of sustain as compared to the G and D ( I think the problem comes from my instument). Mixing with Evah Pirazzi A and E could help?
Maybe. The character of the two strings is kind of different. The Oblis were more mid-rangey and growly on my bass, where the Evahs are bigger, warmer, with less sustain. I like the Evahs as a set, but it's certainly worth a try.

The growly sound is very inportant for me, that's why the Obligatos works for me. But on my bass the A and E string a little bit lacks of sustain and power with any strings. I just like to eliminate my instrument's weakness. I just think the Eavah to mix with Obligato, since both are syintetic core strings.
I had Obli tops/ Spiro bottoms for awhile, I think that would be a better match, especially if growl is important to you. Different compositions, but I don't think it's a huge problem in this case.
Does anyone know the exact tension/gauge of these strings? I found Obligato's very comfortable under the left hand, I wonder how these compare!
I think this might be a pretty good idea, actually. The G is the weak string in the set and I think a honest gut string on the G (or D and G) might be just the ticket. The lower strings are pretty strong. A little dark, but could blend nicely with Gut.
Pirastro doesn't publish tensions, but these strings are not similar in feel to Obligatos. Much beefier, stiffer, more work. Sound different, feel different. Just not the same. I can't imagine mixing them in any way. They're different strings.
