Double Bass Evah Pirazzi strings megathread part II

Well, the weather has been crazy here in Connecticut with it being the wettest June since 1913. I noticed that the weichs seemed especially tough. Actually, I think it's time to lower the height just a bit. So there you have a change just within one bass. These things we love are, after all, huge hunks of wood. :)

The weather in Chicago has also been pretty erratic, from cool to hot to very humid. I changed posts a couple of weeks ago and am heading south with the adjusters trying to make it a bit easier, from 5/16" threads showing to about 3/16" now. By the end of the evening, I may be all the way down!

...which got me thinking again about adjusters. Maybe this should be a separate thread. I turned mine just a quarter-turn and am back in "the groove." Now, just try to measure that change in string height. My point: very small changes made via adjusters can certainly be felt. Even if you hardly ever move them, they allow you to get the strings "just so."

End of OT comment. ;)

Agreed. I cannot think of life without them.

Hi all

I'm new to Talkbass but have been following the string threads with great interest.

I recently put Evah Weichs on my bass and I agree with all the positive feedback on the sound of these strings. However I have found them a bit rubbery, in term of feel - they stick to my fingers a bit, and they are quite elastic - so I need to pull them a bit to get them moving (pizz).

I guess the elasticity is part of the nature of the string but the rubbery feel is a bit off putting.

Has anyone else observed this rubbery feel? If so then is it something that goes away after the strings are played in a bit (I've only had them on for 6 days)?

Thanks. :)

Ian.

Rubbery and elastic? Well, to my hands and on my bass and on the other bass(es) on which I've played them, I never experienced anything approaching that. I have noticed such characteristics in other strings but never in the Evah regulars or weichs. Just another YMMV, I guess. ;)

Thanks for the feedback, I guess it's just the way the strings feel under my own individual hands. ;)

I played two basses with Evah's on them today. One had highish string height (a bit like my own), and the other one was low. The low one might be described as a little rubbery, but the high one felt great to me. I may try a set of these on my backup bass when the time comes. How much are they going for again? :hiding:

Would you guys recommend the Weichs as a hybrid string? I'm using heliocores right now but I'm increasingly unhappy with the D and G under the bow.

Yes! Arco response, IMO, is very nice, indeed and pizz., as you've heard, is fantastic.
