Ever feel ashamed?

I gig proudly with my SX and my Squier VM, the only time I ever looked at my SX with a questioning eye is when a student of mine got a Squier affinity and it was extremely light and thin (great for her but it turns out too small feeling for me). It made my SX jazz bass look enormous though.
To be honest, I don't care for Squiers or most other lower priced basses. I prefer my 1976 Precision, 1978 Jazz and my 2 Alembics. All of which I was fortunate enough to buy used. However, I also realize that not everyone can afford these types of basses or has the desire to ever own one. I also own a couple of lower priced Ibanez basses that I love.
But the truth is, it doesn't matter what I or anybody else thinks about the bass you play. The only one who should be concerned is you. If you like it, play it proudly. I would much rather see a good musician playing relatively inexpensive gear than a bad player using the most expensive gear on the planet.
Don't be ashamed about what you play. Just enjoy it and play it. My signature has a quote from the movie Eddie and The Cruisers II. There is another line from that movie that I really like "Don't worry about being good enough, just go out there and play it, the best that you can play it". This quote was about musicianship but it also applies to gear. Don't worry about it. Just have fun and play.

I can afford any bass I want and the most recent bass I purchased was a Squier because it plays, sounds, feels, and looks great.

I take great pride in watching other people play "cheapo" instruments/gear and making them sound fantastic! Makes me wonder why I can not do the same! LOL! I like the feel and tone that comes from higher priced instruments ($1000 to $3000). I can tell the difference and I desire the difference. So that is what I stick to. Let your playing speak louder than the gear you play. That way you will never be ashamed to play certain gear again.
Only gear snobs would even care. Most people are there to hear music and could careless what you're using to make it. Other musicians in the crowd will notice it's a squier, but if you have great tone then no body's judging. They may critique your playing but your gear is all about tone. If it sounds good, plays good, go with it. The guitarist I'm playing with right now uses a Squier strat and Epiphone Les Paul. His tone is phenominal with those instruments and his chops are sharp, so no one cares. He's also a father and sacrafices nice eqiupment so there's more money for the family. Just because you're on a budget, doesn't mean you're lame. It means you're smart about your money.
I can safely say that is not an issue common with Squiers. How many Squiers have you played with this problem?
And nothing brings me more joy than playing circles around their ass with a $300.00 instrument!
My two main basses are Squiers. Anyone who makes fun of another player for using a cheapo is insane. I have an expensive bass, but I dislike it. My Squiers are just as good as every Fender I've used, so why spend upwards of a thousand on something for around 300? My '84 Squier P feels like an American, my new J (Indonesian by the way) feels like a solid Mexican. Just because the logo says "inexpensive" doesn't mean it's a cheap.
