Ever thrown a bass away?

Yep...a circa '70 "Lafayette" or such J bass. In retrospect, it wasn't bad and maybe a pioneer in terms of design. IIRC, it had a multi-lam neck not unlike Hagstrom or Kubicki. Pick-up height was never a worry or consideration as the chrome / gold foil components were screwed directly to the face of the instrument. Volume imbalance G > E? Sucks to be you!

I have two that are headed for the scrap heap.
Schecter Damien 5 string. Frets are down to nothing and there's a dip in the board between the 9th and 12th frets. Tuners are crap and I hate the style of bridge. Someone really had their way with it before I came into it and did some hilariously poor dremeling in the neck pocket where you can see all the waves from the sanding drum. I may pull the EMG humbuckers for parts but have no use for them so who knows.
And I have a USA peavey foundation fretless with its truss rod maxed out, low spots around the 7th to 9th fret positions, and a local highly regarded luthier couldn't even get it right removing a ton of material from the board in a jig. Electronics are all good but the neck is toast imo. If I could find a cheap replacement neck that didn't have the typical aging peavey problems, I might keep it. But alas, I get annoyed just looking at it because at one point it was a solid bass and that hurts. Getting rid of the flatwounds in favor of rounds might correct the truss adjustment to a small degree, but I'm pretty much just over it.
All they do is sit on the rack. Anyone who wants either and can pickup in western mass I'm willing to let go of them for next to nothing.

My Framus Star bass from the 60's started to fall apart shortly after I bought it. I had to replace the tuners when the original plastic ones broke! The pots stopped working, and I had to wire the pickup directly to the jack plug socket. I left it in my parents garage in 1973 and they chucked it when they moved in 2000.
Oh yea, 3 or 4 if I'm remembering correctly. One was more like shotgunned away though. A .44 was involved also.
Despite my best efforts, I couldn't save my Peavey TL-Six. It had to go.
During an argument about 6 years ago my Adam Clayton signature jazz suffered severe damage and the body had to be replaced. I held onto the damaged body for a couple years but finally tossed it.
