Fender VI
ELECTRIC BASS GUITAR

...is what's written on my MIJ Fender VI (a copy of the 1962 Fender VI)'s headstock.

When these 30" - 30.3" scale instruments are strung with .095 - .025 strings tuned E - e one octave below a regular guitar (the way that Leo Fender designed them to be), they are bass guitars.

When they are strung with lighter gauge strings and tuned either A - a or B - b then they are baritone guitars.

As for the Fender VI used in the recordings whose links are found in the OP?

I'm not up on my Cream discography but Mr. Bruce did play a Fender VI at one point.

Yes. He may have used Danelectro on some of those tunes also but yeah, he used a Bass VI, which is weird considering his classic bass technique and the string spacing, etc.
He didn't have his eb3 yet on that album.

Here's Glenn Campbell with a Bass VI. I think it's strung as a baritone, A to A.
Guitar players say they pretty much have to stick to partial chords and single-note stuff when using them this way.
