Examples of P-Basses in Metal

Did a search and nothing quite as specific came up.

I was just wondering if anybody could offer some cool examples of Precision basses being used in metal music? I'm talking any subgenre, I like the classic hard rock stuff, but I'm also curious to see if anybody has pulled off a P Bass in the more "extreme" subgenres.

I can already think of Geezer Butler, Steve Harris, some Alice Cooper stuff, Rob Trujillo on many live recordings with Metallica, Peter Baltes... anybody else?

I think Nikki Sixx uses a pre-CBS P exclusively in the studio.....


Lots of P basses out there..... Foo Fighters comes to mind....

I have seen Evan Brewer use an ESP with P/J for something more "extreme"

Oh man, how could I forget Bob Daisley? I'm a mega-fan... he used a P-Bass on most of Diary of a Madman, and actually used a Hofner violin bass on "Flying High Again." Blizzard of Ozz was done with a Gibson EB-3 through one of Randy Rhoads' Marshal amps, also a great tone.

I heard Cliff Burton used to play one with Trauma and real early 'tallica. Frank Bellow plays ESP P-basses now, with a P/J setup.

post-hardcore, but, The Chariot, Silverstein, and a few more.
Glassjaw, and plenty of others use P/J setups, seems like it would be the best option as you could play as strictly P or blend it.

When I saw Converge a couple of years ago, their bassist used a straight up P. Not sure what he records with. Also not sure about anyone else's standards for "extreme," but Converge easily meets mine.

A few days ago, I watched a video of a Soundgarden show from 2010, and Ben Sheppard was playing what looked like an AV '57 RI Precision.

Also, I believe Bob Rock used a P-bass when he laid down the tracks on Metallica's St. Anger.

Cool examples guys. I've noticed in the past little while that ESP P/J basses are becoming more and more popular, and this thread has already given lots of support to that. Alice Cooper's current bass player has one, Tommy Stinson in the modern Guns N' Roses, Frank Bello, plenty of others. Seems to be the way to go these days!

Glenn Hughes and Roger Glover would often play P basses live with Deep Purple, they recorded mostly with Rics though.

Burke Shelley of Budgie played a P with flats if I'm not mistaken.

Frank Bello of Anthrax has always used P/J basses

Electric Wizard's bassists have switched around a lot but use a lot of Ps, their first album was recorded with a bass equipped with double P pickups

Nick Oliveri played a P bass with flats on Kyuss's Blues For The Red Sun (They're not really metal though, just really heavy sounding).

Steve DiGiorgio plays both fretted and fretless p's with Sadus(worlds greatest thrash band!!) and on the Individual Thought Patterns album by Death.

Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse plays a p on their first two or three albums.

And regarding Converge, their bassplayer, who's name escapes me, does record with a p. His tone on the No Heroes album is the definition of facemelt.
