Excel spreadsheet to calculate where to start winding a string. . .

Another recent thread reminded me of this old thread of mine so I though I would revive the zombie for the latest generation of TB users! It will give an estimated tension but is just based on an assumption that a round wound string is about 85% as dense as a mono-filament. This calculator also estimates how much your string will stretch and accounts for it. (more important for nylon strings than steel)

I'm an engineer, too. A retired military engineer who spent most of my career in Combat Engineer units - where the "Expedient Methods" field manual was our Bible - and MacGuyver was our God...:whistle: Personally, I don't use formulas to do this; I use a piece of small diameter parachute cord. Stick one end in the tuner hole; wrap it around the tuner the "correct" number of turns; and measure from where it crosses the nut to the other end. Might not be as much fun as calculating it out; but it's quick, and it works just fine - for me...:cool:
