Exorcist: The Beginning

Wow! You guys are harsh.

I guess I'm that one person who liked it. Of course, it's not the original. It's not an Oscar-winner. So what. I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised. I recommend it over Aliens vs. Predator or the Chronicles of Riddick(2 of the worst movies this summer!) Just keep an open mind for those who haven't yet seen it.

I get an email-based movie review service called Flickville. The reviewer, Teddy Durgin, is occasionally as cynical as me. His take on this show was funny. Apparently they had shot and completed the entire movie with one director, screened it for focus groups who found it somewhat scary and somewhat though-provoking. So the studio canned the whole thing, fired everyone but the lead male actor, and started over with a hack director, doing everything possible to remove controversy from the focus groups responses.

The first version with the fired director will be released on DVD along with the version that's in theaters now. You can read about here:

I saw Exorcist....good movie. I love the ending scenes when the main character fights Satan in the caves beneath the church ruins....and that scene where Satan is levitating and coming towards him with arms outsretched...omg scary

I guess I was the only one who got bored with the original? I feel they could of cut out 20-30 minutes of the movie and still gotten the story across just fine. The last 45 minutes to an hour was great and the end "twist" was unexpected though.

Church ruins? I thought the church was supposed to look "untouched", just buried, oddly....

While I'll grant you that Exorcist 2:the Heretic was so very gut-crampingly bad that it was beyond stupid, Exorcist III was actually pretty good: George C Scott and his improvised monologue about the carp in the bathtub, the old lady crawling on the ceiling, the Nurse getting decapitated in the hall,the angel of death...Come on people. How could you not dig that? Especially after James Earl Jones dressed as a grasshopper in E2:tH.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but Exorcist III scared me more than I. Part I is an undeniable classic, but for some reason some scenes in III just stick with me more. I about pooped my pants when you see the guy wearing the sheet with the giant scissors walking after the nurse. *shudder*
