Double Bass Experience with KNA DB-1 pickup?

I also bought a used one for about 50$.
It is now installed on my Czech Ease Ply-bass and the output is just extraordinary! Well balanced considering it's a wing pickup.

Altough, when I tried it brielfy on my fully carved german bass, I couldn't get a decent sound out of it... In an unpleasant way, some frequencies just popped out more than others. Realist copper just seems to work better on my german bass.

That was the experience I had, my carved bass didn’t get along with it.

Anyone had any issues with weird dynamic compression with the db1? Mainly on the g string there us weird compression present where the note fades out and then back in. It's very frustrating. I've A B compared it with another bridge mounted piezo and the compression is gone so I know it's not my preamp. Any help for getting rid of this?

Does it happen in different rooms and/or with different speakers? Sounds like sounds waves, either from different sources or from room reverberations or both, are interacting, creating destructive and then constructive interference.

I can hear it both from speakers and in headphones. I am DI'd straight into a mixing desk/ recording interface and listen to back to the recording on both headphones and speakers. Don't get this with my other wing mounted piezo.

It's like the release function of a compressor. When compressor reduces the level once the audio reaches a threshold and will reduce the signal for a period of time defined by the release function. The signal then increases as the compressed signal is released. This is the exact experience I'm getting with the db-1.

Looked on the website and noticed that I may have made a mistake. I had the pickup sandwiched between shims on both sides. On their website the picture displayed the shim on the bottom (bridge feet end) and the pickup actually making contact with the wing slot string end. Will try this and feedback.

Okay having re fitted the pickup I noticed some slight improvement but it's still there. I'm wondering could it be a wolf tone? Could it be because this pickup is so good that it's responding to a wolf tone whereas the other pickup I compared it to is not doing so? If I upload an audio sample could you have a listen and give your opinions? I love this pickup and it would be a shame to have to change it.

That’s a possibility, but Wolf tones are generally, pitch specific, I have one on my A String, but only in one spot on the fingerboard.
