well… lets just lay out all my follies. i did indeed use the wrong jack. so thanks for that tip. but i also had it at 8ohm. i need to not fumble in the dark next time.You may have already checked this but if you were swapping cabs around on the vintage V4 make sure you didn’t plug into the extension speaker jack. The main output on the vintage amps has a ground short so you need to use that jack first. If you plug into the extension only you’ll get a sound similar to what you’re describing - low and distorted.
amp seems fine but background hum has gone from mild to still acceptable (or is that just my hearing loss/paranoia?), but i assume the power tubes had some life taken off of them.
@agedhorse what likely took the hit, and why did my amp not die like the internet said it would?
