I'm not going to quote all that, but thanks for taking the time to enlighten me on all of that. Good fun. And also, thanks for all the advice. Unfortunately, I now feel spoiled because of my 14-year-old-six-stringedness. Hehehe. As soon as I can get my camera working, I'll take some pics of my bass and I. I'd love to post them here; I'm very proud of my bass.

I'm definitely going to check out the instrumental. Sounds beastly.

i mean, don't get me wrong, he wasn't really obnoxious, per se, like i made him sound, so much as just thinly-veiled rude. in the 16 years that i've played erb's, though, i've had this same conversation with about a million other folks, so i knew where it was going.

bet the dude was a bass player, too. otherwise, he wouldn't have cared so much. heh.

I've been getting grief for my six stringers for 12+ years. Can't wait to see how much I get after I get a seven!

Hehe. Welcome to the club. I get grief for playing my six string, but the only difference about having people at your school and church make fun of you is that you see them EVERY DAY! Therefore it's very hard for me to say anything terrible to them....they'll either hate me for the rest of the _____(day, week, month, year, etc.), or turn me in to the counselor. Life sucks when you're a student. That is why I pray.

Fission, there will come a point where people stop worrying about, or making negative comments about, the bass you play. With the exception of the typical "What kind of bass is that?" questions, I don't get any real negativity tossed my way, people I'm in regular contact with have become used to what I play and no longer give it a second thought.

But from my end, I also don't make a big deal about my bass choices, either. If I'm meeting new people for the first time, I don't say anything about my basses in advance. I just pull them out and play. I rather they judge me on the merits of my skills rather than pre-judge me on the basis of my string count ....

I'd like a number if it's not too much trouble :D

Eagle AB VI. A Swedish low-price brand, but i plays decent, and with the series/split/parallel switch I've put in, it sounds better too. Dare I say Stingray-ish in parallel? (flame shields up!). Mahogany body, maple neck with 26-fret maple board, flamemaple top, MM-style pickup, and 3-band EQ.

That's about it for now. I guarantee more to come. :scowl:

I promised more, here's a conversation I had with a friend of mine who plays guitar and was out with the Flu:

Me: Hey Gus, I got a new six string!
Gus: Bass?
Me: Yeah!
Gus: Dude, you'd be better of just getting a wide-necked guitar with thick strings and tuning it down an octave.

Gargh. This is really getting on my nerves. Oh well, they don't know until they see me play. Then they'll get the awesome...

Updating some previous string set information:

www.octave4plus.com now has full string sets available in a wide range of sizes. You can request custom windings/lengths for pretty moderate pricing. They have standard gauges for the sets, but options available for changes to the gauges. Go to the web site and click on "Bass Guitar String Sets" for more info ....

THAT I'd like to see.

Me, too. I'm sure one or two might exist, but nothing I could find. Really, the only detail left is to decide with a guitar or bass tuner for the low B and if I'll go with pegs or a string through bridge. I was planning on 27" for the B and fanning to about 25" or so. If I could fan down to 24", I could look at a high A......but then I know I wouldn't want to stop. :p
